Design of automated electro-polishing apparatus for electron microscopy specimens preparation
Čermák, Jan ; Szabari, Mikuláš (referee) ; Mikmeková, Šárka (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the automation of the electropolishing process, which is per-former as the last step in the preparation of metallographic samples intended for observation in an electron microscope. A complete hardware design of a single-purpose machine has been developed, which provides the automatic preperation of up to six samples per insertion. There was the design of a manipulator for sample handling together with chemically re-sistant sample holder suitable for automatic operation as a part of solution. The design of the whole machine was developed with regard to the safety of the operator. The thesis includes detailed 3D model of the device and the desing of an application for measurement in the LabVIEW. It describes the future working process of the machine, including a description of a software for controlling the machine and sending process data of each sample to the to the database in accordance with the principles of industry 4.0. In the conclusion, the achieved results and the proposal of further steps necessary for the realization of the machine are for-mulated.
The effect of texture geometry on friction and lubricating film formation in radial journal bearing
Katrincová, Tereza ; Čermák, Jan (referee) ; Šperka, Petr (advisor)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out how the geometric parameters of circular textures affect the friction and lubrication in a conformal contact. The configuration of a partial, radial, hydrodynamic bearing was investigated on a modified block on-ring device, where the block was replaced by a sapphire section. The device allows simultaneous measurement of friction and optical observation of processes in contact. The light induced fluorescence method was used for the measurement of film thickness. None of the studied texture combinations had a positive effect on the transition from hydrodynamic mode to mixed lubrication mode. Textures in the narrow band of the combination of diameter and depth have a positive effect, outside of them negative effect of texture on friction and film thickness was observed.
Experimental bearings stiffness verification of the pointing assembly for optical inter-satellite link
Svoboda, Tomáš ; Čermák, Jan (referee) ; Košťál, David (advisor)
This master´s thesis deals with the determination of the stiffness of a preloaded double-row bearing with an angular contact in the relevant conditions. The introduction describes the basic knowledge about double row angular contact bearings and the relationship between internal clearance, preload and other effects on stiffness. An overview of studies dealing with bearing stiffness and an overview of devices used for experimental stiffness determination is given. Subsequently, the solution itself is described, in which the theoretical calculation of the bearing stiffness was performed first. To determine the experimental values, it was necessary to design and construct experimental device for testing the bearing in the relevant conditions. The effect of material and temperature on the stiffness of the bearing was determined from the measured data and theoretical calculations. The result of this thesis is a functional device, which was used to test the bearing in the thermal chamber.
Microporous materials in organic chemistry (The influence of microporous catalyzers on the synthesis of N-alkylbenzamides)
Čermák, Jan
ČERMÁK, Jan. Microporous materials in organic chemistry (The influence of microporous catalyzers on the synthesis of N-alkylbenzamides). Hradec Králové: Pedagogical Faculty, University of Hradec Králové, 2009, 58 pp. Diploma thesis. The following diploma thesis deals the theme of synthesis of N- alkylbenzamides from benzoic acid and primary aliphatic amines. Amines react with benzoic acid, it leads to formation of quaternary ammonium salt, which dehydrates by heating up with formation of amide. Synthesis was made under the solvent free conditions in the microwave field. Above all there was tested the influence of microporous catalysts on the reaction of benzoic acid with hexylamine. Use of acid catalysts SiO2/H3PO4 and montmorillonite KSF had the positive influence on the studied reaction.
Development of modal verb "shall" in legal English
Kirakosyanová, Natali ; Tichý, Ondřej (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
and key words This BA thesis focuses on examining the development of the use of the modal verb SHALL in legal documents in the English language. The modal verb SHALL still has its place in legal English and, as the manuals indicate, it can point to the precision of legal language. However, ambiguity is a rather undesirable phenomenon in legal language, and due to the growing number of legal documents and drafters, the meanings of modal verbs expanded over time, reducing the level of precision and opening the door to ambiguity. The BA thesis aims to analyse the development of the use of SHALL in court decisions in given time periods, further classify the samples based on semantics, as described by dictionaries of legal English, and point out the gradual growth in the use of certain meanings of the modal verb SHALL, possibly causing ambiguity in legal documents. To compare the development, and especially the frequency of use, the same method is used within the common language, which is analysed using non-legal corpora. Keywords: modal verbs, modality, shall, legal English, language change
Relationships between Old Norse adjectival borrowings and their Old English counterparts in Middle English
Müllerová, Světlana ; Čermák, Jan (advisor) ; Tichý, Ondřej (referee)
CHARLES UNIVERSITY - FACULTY OF ARTS DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ELT METHODOLOGY Relationships between the borrowed Old Norse adjectives in English and their Old English counterparts MA THESIS Supervisor: prof. PhDr. Jan Čermák, CSc. Author: Světlana Müllerová Abstract: The aim of this MA thesis is to examine the relationship between six word pairs, each comprising an Old Norse adjectival borrowing in Middle English and its Old English counterpart along with its Middle English reflex for further reference. The inquiry into their relationship involves an analysis of: their (i) formal aspects, (ii) syntactic properties, (iii) semantic fields and (iv) external factors possibly contributing to their obsolescence or survival, such as the restriction to certain text types or geographic localization, as suggested by the individual linguistic profiles in the Linguistic Atlas of Early Middle English and Linguistic Atlas of Late Mediaeval English. The description of individual semantic fields of the given words is based on their semantic classification within the Historical Thesaurus of English. This analysis is based on the occurrences of the individual words as taken from the dictionaries Middle English Dictionary and Dictionary of Old English, and related corpora Dictionary of Old English Corpus and...
Evidence of Great Vowel Shift in English Poetry of the Period
Bartošová, Jana ; Tichý, Ondřej (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
This BA thesis is dealing with the Great Vowel Shift which occurred roughly between the fifteenth and eighteenth century in British English. Analysis in this thesis was carried out manually on a sample of selected poetry of the period. While obtaining examples affected by the Great Vowel Shift other changes occurring approximately around the same period as the Great Vowel Shift such as shortening were taken into account. In the analysis it was observed that the number of representations of individual shifts is very different from each other. One specific shift was encountered widely in the works of all selected poets while another shift was not encountered once. The results of the manual analysis were displayed in graphs which were then compared to the presumed chronology of the Great Vowel Shift. Key words: The Great Vowel Shift, rhyme, poetry, Old English, Middle English, Modern English
Lexical Replacements of Romance Origins in Middle English
Buchal, Kryštof ; Tichý, Ondřej (advisor) ; Čermák, Jan (referee)
and key words This BA thesis focuses on selected words of French origin adopted into English during the Middle English period. The theoretical part deals with the research carried out in the field of French borrowings in the Middle English period so far. The research part focuses on lexical borrowings that replaced their corresponding equivalents of Germanic origin. The words were chosen from the Oxford English Dictionary, which also provided the information on etymology, various orthographic forms, current usage frequency and classification into semantic fields. The classification was used to find corresponding equivalents of French or Germanic origin. The list of orthographic variants of the words was verified and complemented with the Middle English Dictionary. Next, a corpus including English prose and verse from the period between 1150 and 1500 was used to analyze the usage and changes in the usage frequency of the replacements and the replaced words throughout this period. Key words: lexical replacements, French borrowings, Romance borrowings, Middle English
