Leisure and interest activities pupils from school for hearing impaired pupils

7 Abstract In its theoretical part this bachelor thesis deals with the definition of leisure time and presents the most prestigious leisure institutions and organizations in the Czech Republic. It especially focuses on the specifics of leisure time of hearing-impaired children and youth. It briefly describes the range of leisure activities that are available at schools and hearing loss organization in several cities. In the practical part the questionnaire and survey data are analysed. Attention has also been paid to the difference between leisure time of surveyed boarding and non-boarding pupils. Information about Psychology and Psychological Diagnostics of Deaf Children in Czech and Foreign Literature

This thesis deals with available information about psychology and psychological diagnostics of deaf children in the Czech and foreign specialized literature. The opening methodological part focuses on characteristic of the literature and on description of how the Czech and English texts were searched and processed. The information in the following part, that deals with processing the publications, are clearly arranged into a bibliographic research. The research of the Czech specialized literature has shown a narrow focus on some psychological topics and a lack of texts dealing with psychological treatment of deaf people in practise. The research of the English expert literature has revealed a bad availability of this literature for Czech readers and a poor interest in translating texts, that focus on psychology and the deaf people.
Do deaf pupils understand learning texts?

This thesis is focused on learning texts reading comprehension of pupils in primary schools for hearing impairment pupils in comparison with primary schools pupils of mainstream education, in connection with the textbooks. The whole issue is put into the theoretical framework of reading literacy and teaching texts information. Specifically, there is a reading literacy in the concept of international studies, and also a brief overview of the findings drawn from the textbooks, their functions, research, evaluation and comparison. The comparison of the concept of primary school textbooks for the hearing impaired with textbooks for mainstream schools through standardized assessment tools is included too. In this thesis, there is a research of learning texts comprehension for pupils from 3rd to 9th (or 10th) years of primary schools for the hearing impaired and analogous grades of primary school pupils of mainstream education. The research design is based on Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), one part of this research is translated into Czech sign language.
Specific Features of Czech Deaf People's E-mail Communication in Official Communication Situations

This bachelor thesis deals with the stylistics of the written Czech used in e-mail correspondence by the Czech deaf. The main attention is focused on formal communication situations that take place on the intercultural level, i.e. between the non-deaf and deaf participants in communication. The aim of the thesis is to find out what stylistic means occur in situations with varying degrees of formality, and to what extent the deaf writers are familiarised with the stylistic standards of Czech - language that is foreign to them. The starting material comprises 185 e-mails from 67 deaf authors whose native or preferred communication language is Czech sign language. The adaptations of belletristic texts for deaf children

Thesis deals with tbe theme of adaptation of belletristic literary texts for hear impaired readers. In theoretic part it sums up actua1 knowledge about reading of deaf and infers from them the conclusion for working with printed texts in deaf classes. Thesis concems with actual approaches and used processes in creating adapted texts in our background. This knowledge is completed by new approaches and methods common used in abroad, first at all in language classes of non-native speakers. Practical part is focused on selected adapted texts for hearing impaired readers. These texts are analyzed if they meet adaptation's criteria requirements. At the close thesis sums up difficulties in actual approach to text adaptation and suggest their elimination. Headwords:
Personal pronouns in written czech of the deaf

The bachelor's thesis is dealing with the problematic of personal pronouns in written Czech language of the Czech deaf. In the theoretical part of the thesis the personal pronouns in Czech, Czech Sign Language and other sign languages are described. There are also mentioned the differences in functioning of personal pronouns in Czech language and Czech sign language. Next part of the thesis is focused on the description of the textbooks of Czech language for deaf and for foreigners learning Czech in the field of personal pronouns. In the research 33 respondents - the students of the secondary school and the university - were engaged. The usage of personal pronouns was examined by means of the questionaries given to the respondents. The questionary had three parts - a translation of the sentences from Czech Sign Language to Czech, grammatical exercises and a short essay. The acquired data were analysed; the mistakes in the usage of pronouns were described and the possible connections between the types of the mistakes in written Czech and the mode of functioning of the sign language were introduced. Finally a concept of the methodics for acquisition of personal pronouns by deaf is suggested.
Corpus of written Czech language of Czech deaf

The thesis deals with written Czech language of the Czech Deaf. It draws on texts of 14-21 years old deaf students of elementary and high schools. These texts have been edit specifically and used for creation the base of Corpus of written Czech language of Czech Deaf by the Czech National Corpus. Thesis informs about existing corpuses and states the reasons of establishing the corpus of written Czech of Deaf. In the second part of the thesis, two typical mistakes are presented and analyzed, the author also focuses on defining the cause of those mistakes which are usually found in texts of Czech Deaf. The thesis draws on findings of Czech and foreign linguists.
Parents' Voice: Concerns, barriers and benefits of Parental Involvement for children with Autism in Malaysia

The involvement of parents at home and in school is a crucial factor in the development of child with autism. This qualitative study explored the similarities and difference between the perceptions of Malaysian parents on parental involvement. The selected participants are parents of children with autism, and are currently enrolled either in a primary government or private school. The present study used semi-structured interviews to examine the participants' views on parental involvement. A thematic analysis was used to interpret the interview findings. The study showed that parents have similar definitions of parental involvement. However, it was also revealed that parents engaged in different types of parental involvement such as decision-making, collaboration with the community and learning-at-home. The parents also shared their views on the barriers to parental involvement including: lack of parent resources, financial constraints, poor education system and the lack of skilled special education teachers. The parents also shared their concerns about the children's ability to live independently in the future. Teachers' Perceptions of Inclusion of Students with Special Needs in Mainstream Primary Schools in Fiji

The main aim of this research was to explore teachers' perceptions of inclusion of students with special needs in mainstream primary schools in Fiji. Teachers' perceptions are crucial as it determines how students with special needs are perceived and where they are placed to be educated. It also reveals the underlying reasons which could be used in making valid and effective decision for the future of inclusive education. In addressing the research phenomena this study subsumed to qualitative approach for data collection via semi-structured interviews. This study was conducted in four different mainstream primary schools in Nausori District Fiji, which were practicing inclusion to some extent. A total of eight teachers, two from each school were selected as the participants for this study. The head teachers of respective schools assisted in identifying potential teachers as participants for this research study, maintaining low biasness. This study found that teachers are knowledgeable and have deeper understanding of inclusive education. All eight teachers were supporting inclusive education and were in favour of inclusion of students with special needs.
