Invasion of Rumex alpinus in Krkonoše mountains
Naglová, Šárka ; Münzbergová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The issue of plant invasion and of spreading alien species is a serious problem for all ecosystems. The problem is even bigger if the invasion takes place in the national park, or other important areas, such as the Giant Mountains. The Unique species diversity is undermined by non-native species, which often significantly suppress indigenous communities. Not always is this problem early and effectively regulated, or at best completely stoped, especially because each invasion is needed to be access individually, gather enough data and observations and determine an effective strategy to combat invasive species. There has been a lot of analysis written about the invasion of Rumex alpinus already, so my job is to summarize the results, determine whether the species distribution prediction was correct and if possibly determine the next steps in the fight against this invasive plant in the Giant Mountains. Key words: Rumex alpinus, invasion, The Giant (national park), the spread of the species

It focuses on the 1994 system and its modification in 2008. The categories are defined and compared. Development of the number and area of protected areas and national parks in the world is studied, and also pros and weaknesses of the system of protected area management categories. The main objective is to create a database of national parks in the world, which includes the 3,227 areas, having an area of over 5,000,000 square kilometers. Part of the thesis is also an analysis of national parks according to continents.
Konstructivism in geography education
Medková, Eva ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
Medková, E. (2012): Constructivism in geography education. Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Charles University in Prague. The thesis deals with a constructivist model used in Geography classes. The theoretical part focuses on the characteristic of this model and compares it with the traditional transmissive model. It describes the methods used in the constructivist teaching. Part of the practical section was the pedagogical experiment that compared the efficiency of constructivist and transmissive teaching. Experiment was realized in the Primary school in two parallel 7th grade classes. There were two geographical topics tought - monsoons and the development of the Asian states. The development of the Asian states topic was tought transmissively in one class and in a constructivist manner in the second class. As a second step the other topic of monsoons was tought and the teaching method in the classes was interchanged. The efficiency of the teaching was determined by the help of the didactic test and then statistically evaluated.
The issue of Ips typographus in the National park Šumava ?application into geographical education
Faflák, Jiří ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Král, Luboš (referee)
The issue of Ips typographus in the National park Šumava - application into geographical education Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of Ips typographus with an emphasis on the possible ways of solving the outbreaks of its population in the National Park of Šumava. This work is also concerned with the application of articles dealing with this problem into geographical education. The outbreaks caused by the Spruce Bark Beetle are a long-term problem typical for non-native spruce monocultures that have replaced, not only in Šumava, the native mixed forests. The opinions on how to approach this matter differ a lot and it is quite hard to assess their objectivity. The method of active reading proved to be ideal when including this topic into geographical education. Active reading of texts in the geographical lessons helps students to develop critical thinking and to shape their individual opinion. The set of articles presented in this thesis encompassing various insights on how to solve the Spruce Bark Beetle outbreaks in Šumava will help the teacher in developing the above mentioned students' skills. Articles are divided into three separate groups according to the solution they propose. A CD included in this work contains selected articles. Teachers have the option to work with the articles and...
The spread of invasive neophytes in the riverbank vegetation of Tichá Orlice river
Hajzlerová, Lenka ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kindlmann, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor thesis summarizes the basic knowledge about invasive species of plants. It foccuses of characteristic and hypothetic invasive species with special focus on the neophytes growing in a riverbank vegetation. It foccuses in an appearance of invasive neophytes in riverbank vegetation in a basin of river Tichá Orlice and describes physically-geographical and socially-economical conditions. With using method MUTON (The method for complex mapping of streams and alluvium) it was mapped a chosen part of bank Tichá Orlice river. There were located chosen neophytes. We supposed that these chosen neophytes will be occur in riverbank vegetation. The most abundant plant species were - Impatiens glandulifera, Reynoutria sp., Helianthus tuberosur and Solidago sp. In comparison with other similar rivers (similar flow rate, river-basin and length), the Tichá Orlice river belongs to the above-average affected watercourse.
Assessment of the impact of wind calamity from November 19, 2004 on the nature of the High Tatra Mountains
Vosátková, Veronika ; Lipský, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this study is to bring a light into the situation of wind calamity which happened 19.11.2004. After the physicographical analysis of this locality, I will try to bring the whole picture of this catastrophe, its causes and mostly consequences left on the tatra nature. I will pay special attention to regeneration of the country and following steps in dealing with this calamity because of two different opinions on the picture of Tatras. Finally, I will discuss future progress in Tatra mountains and i will try to answer the question, whether was a worse catastrophe a wind calamity or human intervention in this locality afterwards.
Externalities in transport with emphasis on spatial aspects
Tomášek, Radek ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hanus, Martin (referee)
Externalities in transport with emphasis on spatial aspects. Summary This Thesis deals with the externalities of transport with an emphasis on spatial externalities. It is divided into eight chapters which are then broken down into individual subsections. In the basic concepts chapter is included the theoretical part characterizing the phenomenons of transport and externalities, possibilities of quantification, solving and internalization of transport externalities and the current situation in the Czech Republic. The chapter Practical part includes specific studies and their results. First, the model area of Výtoň is described and there are given at least the basic information regarding the functioning of traffic lights, followed by the methodology of the survey and its results. This research is also followed by the questionnaire survey dealing with the pedestrian traffic in Prague. Both surveys point to the same goal which is to find out about the influence of fragmentation of the landscape on the lives of the city's inhabitants. This goal was achieved in the final chapter, which summarizes the most important findings from both surveys. KEY WORDS: Externalities, space, fragmentation, road transport, city, pedestrian crossing with traffic lights
Destruction of natural habitat - aplication to geographical education
Babčaníková, Petra ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Král, Luboš (referee)
The subject of essay, the destruction of natural habitats, is very up-to-date nowdays. Human activities has a negative impact upon the natural environment. In essay, there are summarize the causes and consenquences of destruction of endangered ecosystems. The types of organisms eco-environmental conditions of their demise also disappearing .This rapidly reduces the biodiversity of the site. The essay is divided into two parts. The first part deals with theoretical introduction in the form of literary search by subject on the destruction of natural habitats. Particular chapters are divided according to the ecosystems (coral reefs, mangroves, wetlands, lakes, forest's ecosystems), separetely is the process of habitat fragmentation which also conduces to the destruction of natural habitats. Deforestation has the highest proportion on the destruction of ecosystems, this is why this topic is taken in the biggest part of essay accordingly with the addition of deforestation in the world. The second part constains aplication of specialized topic into the geographic education by the definition of basic concepts and designing a worksheet for high school students. The aim is to develop in students a global mindset and awaken interest in sustainable development. Dissolution of natural habitats is an important...
The level of invasion by alien plants in the Ploučnice River basin
Šenová, Vendula ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Romportl, Dušan (referee)
The level of invasion varies according to the habitat type. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the level of invasion in the basin of the Ploučnice River in North Bohemia. The values of the level of invasion were quantified for vegetation plots from the Czech National Phytosociological Database and for segments of riverbank vegetation which were mapped at own field research. Ten maps showing the level of invasion by alien plants were developed based on a quantitative assessment of the level of invasion of particular habitat types at different altitudes. The levels of invasion were measured as proportion of the species that are aliens and total cover of alien species, the same was done for archeophytes and neophytes separately. The other option to quantify the level of invasion was using levels of count of invasive neophytes in the riverbank vegetation. Within each habitat the level of invasion was related to altitude. If the relation was significant, the level of invasion in that habitat was extrapolated according to that relation to altitude. Mean levels of invasion were used for the habitats which the relation was non-significant for. The west, northeast and the central parts of the assessed basin were evaluated as the most invaded areas. It is caused by the occurrence of the most invaded...
Possibilities of integration of geography and art
Horáková, Petra ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kučera, Zdeněk (referee)
Integrated teaching has found its place at the Czech schools particularly during the last years. By using of this method we can reach for increasing of students' knowledge and especially it can help to understand the relations between subjects and better connect one information with another one. The integration of subjects leads to the development of key's competences of pupils. In my thesis I'm dealing with possibilities of integration of geography and art which haven't been comprehensive processed yet. The interconnection of subjects is possible in terms of contents or as an alternative to didactics games or as a mean to the development of knowledge and skills of the pupil. This way of integrated learning has also a motivating effect and helps to improve a lot of key's competences. In my thesis I'm analysing the curriculum documents and searching for common themes for geography and art but I'm also dealing with the suggestions of concrete activities and their application into practice. The part of my thesis is a presentation of a model lesson and the evaluation of benefits and effectiveness of the studied teaching method through a didactics test.
