Using the Frenchay Arm Test in monitoring the effect of botulinum toxin in spastic patients after brain damage
Medková, Lia ; Angerová, Yvona (advisor) ; Čábelková, Alžběta (referee)
bachelor's thesis: Bachelor's thesis deals with the use of Frenchay Arm Test to study the effect of botulinum toxin to patients with spasticity after brain damage. A question is raised, whether Frenchay Arm Test, is test of self-sufficiency and hand function, is useful for monitoring the effects of botulinum toxin in these patients. The theoretical part explains the physiology of human movement and the consequences of brain damage to motoric. It deals with the increased stretch muscle, i.e. spasticity of patients after brain damage. Furthermore, it introduces the theory of application of botulinum toxin, which in small amounts affects spasticity and helps promote self-sufficiency of a patient. Frenchay Arm Test is presented as appropriate diagnostic method and benefits of applying this method by Occupational therapist are described. In the practical part, the Frenchay Arm Test is applied to two patients prior to application of botulinum toxin, month after and three months after application. The results are evaluated based on modified Frenchay scale and complemented by labels marking individual acts. The emphasis lies on the overall rehabilitation of the patient, which is considered a key to the successful treatment. Keywords: Spasticity, Botulinum, Frenchay Arm Test, Brain Damage, Occupational...
Possible uses of Occupational Therapy in patients with painful shoulder syndrome
Pukovcová, Klára ; Svobodová, Tereza (advisor) ; Čábelková, Alžběta (referee)
This following thesis is focused on painful shoulder syndrome and possible treatments through occupational therapy. It serves as a summary of possible occupational therapy interventions for patients with painful shoulder syndrome. The main aim was to create a treatment method that occupational therapist can provide as part of a multidisciplinary team. The theoretical part includes anatomy and insights into kinesiology, causes, symptoms, testing and treatment options for painful shoulder syndrome. The main part of the thesis introduces potential treatment procedures which can be performed through the intervention of occupational therapy and brings a new perspective in terms of rehabilitation of the disease, since it was previously primarily viewed from a physiotherapists perspective, which is essential for the treatment of painful shoulder syndrome. The practical part contains two case studies performed on adult patients who suffered with painful shoulder syndrome, both show the course of therapy in individual patients. Occupational therapy methods were practiced on patients and are dealt with in the theoretical part of the work. The methods compliment physiotherapist intervenion and facilitate the patient's return to normal daily life. KEY WORDS: painful shoulder syndrome, shoulder joint, upper...

Sýkorová, Jitka ; Čábelková, Alžběta (advisor) ; Dlouhá Maršálková, Alexandra (referee)
The Role of the Occupational Therapist in the Treatment of Patients with Huntington's Disease Abstract: This thesis is focused on the possible potential of occupational therapy in patients with Huntington's disease, a neurodegenerative brain disease. Currently, Huntington's disease is incurable, but there are some therapeutic methods and approaches which have positive influence on a progress of the disease. Also, early intervention of occupational therapy is needed and the occupational therapist is an irreplaceable specialist as a part of an interdisciplinary team. However, in the Czech Republic there is a little experience with occupational therapy in patients with Huntington's disease. The thesis consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part provides basic information about the condition and by having used specialized foreign literature it also focuses on the opportunities and goals of occupational therapy in patients with Huntington's disease. In the practical part, questionnaires which were distributed among patients and patient care providers were evaluated. Results of the questionnaires provide besides other things a brief outline of patient's problematic areas. Occupational therapy evaluation of patients with Huntington's disease includes the Montreal Cognitive Assessment...
ADL manual for people after stroke
Žďárská, Jana ; Čábelková, Alžběta (advisor) ; Uhlířová, Jaromíra (referee)
This bachelor thesis is aiming at creating a ADL (Activity of Daily Living) manual for people who suffered a stroke. Theoretical part is mainly focused on results of stroke that patients have to live with. It represents what occupational therapy is about and its irreplaceable role in the process of the patient's return to active life. It shows wide range of rehabilitation process and patient's difficulties with availability of complete materials with its issue. There are materials describing etiology, causes and results of stroke on the market, but not so many publications describing procedure how to deal with it and how to reach the highest level of patient's independence in normal life when it once happened. Practical part is represented by my own manual called ,,ADL manual for people after a stroke" with summary sheets included after each category of ADL. The manual contains use of common and also rare compensatory aids with instructions where to find details about those aids on the market. The manual was created with 30 different people who suffered stroke and use compensatory aids nowadays. Then the survey was made with these patients to express their opinions on the manual. Key words: Stroke Occupational Therapy personal ADL self-sufficiency instrumental ADL compensatory aids

This bachelor's thesis deals with the use of HandTutor technology in occupational therapy with people after brain damage. The theoretical part describes HandTutor technology, brain damage and subsequent occupational therapy intervention. HandTutor technology is presented as an active rehabilitating system of upper limb including diagnostic and therapeutic part. The practical part contains the aim of the thesis, research questions and the methodology of the research. In my research, the progress of therapies with HandTutor technology is presented by two case reports of people after brain damage. The result of the research is the record of the changes in the parameters measured by HandTutor technology. The changes are reflected in the charts and visual supplements. The conclusion summarises the responses of research questions describing also the problems which can occur while using this technology. This thesis serves as an introduction HandTutor technology, specifies its use in occupational therapy with people after brain damage and recommends futher research of the diagnostic data analysis in an objective evaluation. Key words: HandTutor occupational therapy brain damage upper limb objective evaluation
Kinect - utilising in the occupational therapy
Nushartová, Marie ; Oborná, Pavlína (advisor) ; Čábelková, Alžběta (referee)
The theme of this thesis is the use of Kinect in training of movements which are used in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) of patients with brain damage. Teoretical introduction is dedicated to analysing possible neurophysiological mechanisms which could be applied in rehabilitation with using of Kinect such as biofeedback, repetitive movements, complex paterns of movements. Training response was tested on the pilote sample of two patients: one with right-handed spastic hemiparesis after hemorragic stroke, the other with kvadruparesis, disability of low to medium-size of both superior limbs, more severe right, after craniocerebral trauma with multiple contuses of brain. Training was applied in series of six training days during several weeks. Development of results was expressed quantitatively using arithmetic averages achieved in particular days and variability was expressed by value their average absolute deviation. To compare development of training achievements and development of abilities fine and gross motor skills of patients was used Jebsen - Taylor Test. In the thesis are discused appropriate attributes of virtual reality to utilise in the occupational therapy and also possible problems and contraindication of some diagnoses simultaneously. Key words: Kinect, Motion capture, virtual...
