Journals of teaching history as a practical methodical support to Czechoslovak teachers of history in the period 1948-1970
Bimková, Dana ; Mikeska, Tomáš (advisor) ; Parkan, František (referee)
This master thesis deals with history teaching from 1948 up to 1970. The main focus is not put on the way how the teaching looked really like, but it deals with the teaching methods how history should be taught. The major sources are journals of education for history teaching, mostly Dějepis ve škole and the preceding and following journals. The basic question is whether the magazines could have really helped the teachers in terms of teaching methodology and what was this support like. In the first chapter the history of education is described, the second chapter deals with the journals of education for history teaching. Next is described how a lesson should look like, the whole-class presentation, examination, revision, using a textbook. Special chapter deals with various tools for history teaching, including maps, images, audiovisual aids and literature. Moreover there is covered regional history, excursions, cooperation with museums and archives. In the end the basic question is answered; the journals were able to help the teachers well, many interesting and inspiring articles were in them. Nowadays, the problems of history teaching are almost the same, the have not been solved yet. Furthermore in the end are discussed special methodological debates in the half-public space that were present in...

Moraová, Hana ; Parkan, František (advisor) ; Havlůjová, Hana (referee)
The thesis The Reflection of the Battle of Lipany in Historiography and Textbooks focuses on the issue of historical consciousness, subconsciousness and the birth of tradition and the role that history taught at schools plays in this process. The author studies how history taught at schools reflects research and results of contemporary historians. She shows whether, how fast and to which extent the results enter history textbooks, often the only text that pupils, students and unfortunately also teachers access. The whole issue is demonstrated on the Battle of Lipany - the event often perceived by Czech historians as key for future development of the whole nation. In the introductory part the author discusses the question of historical consciousnesss and subconsciousness, Czech national myth and tradition. In the following chapters she shows how in different eras of Czech history the topic of the Battle of Lipany was approached by historiographers and how their results entered history textbooks. The author shows that in most periods this process was very slow, if any, the only exception being the Protectoral period and the period of the communist regime when the ideological line propagated by official historiography entered the textbooks very fast. Of course, this ideological interpretation was...

Knitlová, Hana ; Parkan, František (advisor) ; Mikeska, Tomáš (referee)
99 Summary The topic of this Diploma thesis focuses on Fictionalization of History in History Teaching. This area is closely connected with Eduard Štorch. Eduard Štorch was an amateur archaeologist, a very good writer and an undervalued teacher. Based on topics which he drew from a variety of archaeological research projects he created and wrote adventure stories which can be classified as somewhere between fiction and popular science stories in which he described oldest periods of Czech history. His books are still recognised today as the very best of their kind and they have been translated into a number of foreign languages. As a teacher, Štorch did his utmost to improve children's education. At his own expense and almost single-handedly he built a "Children's Farm" on Libeňský ostrov in Prague. It was meant as a place for educating children not only inside a classroom but also in the middle of nature. Children from other schools in Prague were encouraged to use the outdoors facilities there in their free time as well. Eduard Štorch tried to promote and enforce changes in the teaching of all school subjects but concentrated on the teaching of history. For this purpose he published several books such as "The Reform of the History Taught at Schools" (Reforma školního dějepisu; 1905), "The New History"...
