Hyperlocal media in Czech republic

This thesis deals with one of the fresh trend in media production which caught attention of both scholars and laic public. It concerns phenomenon of hyper local media. Theoretical base of this work lies in appropriation of "locality"as a distinctive attribute in terms of globalization processes. It operates with such terms as spatio- temporal changes, localization, globalization, human and place, authority and social integrity trying to contextualize these terms with media studies. Further it attempts to enlighten what are hyper local media, where can we find its roots in the field of journalism, how do they work and which advantages and disadvantages they have. Research part of the thesis studies particular Czech hyper local project of PPF Investment Company combining case study and quantitative content analysis. Main intention is to find out whether the concept of hyper local journalism is sustainable in Czech media landscape (and under which conditions) and whether it has got working business model. We are also interested in its ability of capturing and keeping new audience and delivering the different content in comparison with another available and comparable media. The media image of the fair trade concept in the Czech press

The thesis The media image of the Fair Trade concept in the Czech press examines media image of the Fair Trade business system in the most widely read newspapers Aha!, Blesk, Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Mladá fronta DNES, Právo and Sport. The aim is to find out whether newspapers report on Fair Trade in broader context and in which frames it is most likely presented. At the same time the thesis examines the extent to which newspapers inform about Fair Trade. There are two hypothesis formulated, one suggesting that the amount of articles referring about Fair trade has an increasing tendency and that articles do not address the issue in broader context. The answers to research questions and the validity of the hypotheses are examined through quantitative and qualitative content analysis based primarily on the framework theory. Deductive procedure using pre-formulated control questions is also used. The finding is that the newspapers most often present Fair Trade in economics frame followed by conflict frame and human impact frame. In addition, the thesis examines the presence of a critical frame, which is almost absent in the newspapers. The context is usually limited. Image of NGOs'working within roma communities

This Bachelor thesis deals with the media image on non-profit organizations operating within the Roma communities. The examined articles come from four Czech news portals Aktuálně.cz, Deník.cz, iDNES.cz and Novinky.cz, the examined period is January - July 2013. The theoretical part outlines selected concepts of media theory, which are later used for media content analysis: gatekeeping, news values, agenda setting, framing. There is also theoretically defined nonprofit sector, its organizations and some of the aspects of current situation which can affect public and media image of non-profit organizations. The theoretical part continues with description of social exclusion aspect within the Roma community and shows that it's strongly embed in history. Later there are information about the concept called New(s) Racism and about characteristics of minorities' media image, which is also applicable on media image of the Roma people in the Czech Republic. Impact of the Economic Crisis on Immigration Policy: Case Study of Great Britain

This thesis explores the impact of economic crisis on immigration policy in Great Britain. This thesis will start with the theoretical framework. Historical overview of British immigration policy will follow, together with its culmination into the current situation. At the same time, this thesis will focus on integration policy in Great Britain. Afterwards, this thesis will examine the current composition of the immigrant population living in Great Britain, also compared to other countries of the European Union. Chapter on public opinion will be included as well. The main body of this thesis follows the evolution of anti-immigrant rhetoric in times of the 2008-2009 financial crisis. Two traditional political parties of Britain will be observed, Labour and Conservatives, together with UKIP, infamous for its xenophobic statements. The result of this thesis is an evaluation of the effects of economic crisis on anti- immigration rhetoric as well as on realpolitik. This thesis confirms that in certain cases, economic crisis can intensify anti-immigration sentiments by creating conditions suitable for development of anti-immigration rhetoric. From peace to Crimea: Russia's media image in Czech commentary in years 2013-2014

Bachelor's thesis titled From peace to Crimea: Russia's media image in Czech commentary in years 2013-2014 analyzes the form of commentaries related to Russian federation and endeavors to capture a transformation of medial view on the country in the context of Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, conflict in Ukraine and all previous events. The theoretical background of the whole thesis is based on the theories of social and medial construction of reality such as agenda setting, framing and gate-keeping and deals with stereotyping as well. An extensive chapter is devoted to Czech-Russian relations in a time span longer than a century, presents important points in shared history and mentions events which radically influenced international history in the past. The analytic part applies the method of quantitative content analysis and utilizes elements of qualitative content analysis. The presented media image of Russia is based on examination of eight variables (frequency, media, extent, author, event, topic, evaluation of Russia's role and stereotypes).

In April 2013 in Bangladesh building with five textile factories in which 1,129 people died, collapsed. A period of two months followed by when the media reported on violations of human and labor rights more than for the whole period of eight years before followed. The aim of this work is media image of human rights shown on the largest textile disaster in April 2013. The aim is to describe the media construct of human rights in the Czech serious media and their Internet sites. The solution I used is a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis and analytical part is divided into two periods. The first part of the analysis focuses on the period of one year after the collapse of the factory, the second part analyzes the period from January 2005. I managed to describe how the Czech serious long-term media ignore human rights themes and focuses only to the news reporting.
Pragmatization of a global magazine: glocalization and lokal globalisation (case study of czech and french version of Elle)

The diploma thesis Pragmatization of a global magazine: glocalization and local globalisation (case study of Czech and French versions of Elle) is focused on the manifestation of the French and Czech culture in Europe and worldwide. Its objective is to analyze cultural signs that are introduced into these cultures via the global lifestyle magazine Elle. The theoretical part includes definitions of the term culture in its anthropological meaning and its relation to the natural languages. The French and Czech culture are described afterwards on the basis of their history, religion, language and cultural symbols. Then the role of globalization in the modern society and its influence on culture and media are explained. Also the profile of the samples, i.e. the French and Czech versions of the magazine Elle, is given, as well as the characterization of the research methods chosen for this study. The practical part is concerned with the particularities of both versions and it compares, by means of semiotic and discourse analysis, their contents, topics, advertisements, the choice of celebrities, and their target audience. The media stereotyping of Czechs in the case of the National library

My bachelor thesis "Media stereotyping of the Czechs in the case of the National Library" explores stereotypes of Czech national identity / Czechness in the contents of Czech printed media. The media chosen are the weekly magazines Respekt and Reflex . The examined period is from 2nd March 2007 to 2nd June 2007, which means three months after the announcement of the winner of international architectural competition for the new National Library building at Letna. Qualitative content analysis method is used to define stereotypes based on the material examined. It is conceived as an interpretation of a media text. The analysis studies and interprets references found to the Czechs / the nation /the society. It examines what identity and character the chosen titles assign to the Czech nation. After that, the thesis examines the similarities and differences between the two titles. The research part is preceded by a theoretical part and a methodological part. Communication strategy of nonprofit organisation UNICEF on social networks

This bachelor thesis Communication Strategy of nonprofit organisation UNICEF on social network focuses on the topic of social networks in the nonprofit sector. Specifically, the communication strategy of nonprofit organization UNICEF on the social network Facebook. The work is divided into theoretical and analytical part. The theoretical part deals with the concepts of marketing environment, new media and social networks. The paper also briefly describes the principles of creating communication strategies, Web 2.0 technologies and the characteristics of the communication model many-to-many. In this part are generally characterized types of non-profit organizations, their selection of legal forms and interest groups. The analytical part is my own research of the social network in the selected period. Within the analysis are analysed posts and using modern tools, especially hyperlinks and hashtags in them. The aim is to determine, among other things, how are these tools within the organization's communication strategy used. Using content analysis are observed other additional overall characteristics of the communication strategy of the organization.
