The master's thesis focuses on developing pupils' vocabulary and the current didactic perspective on how to contribute to its highest level. In the practical part of the thesis, a research study was conducted to determine the vocabulary level among 5th-grade pupils using the Type-Token Ratio (TTR) index. Two main research questions were formulated for the study. The first research question examined whether the richness of students' vocabulary improves after they engage in text exercises and didactic games aimed at vocabulary practice. The second research question focused on differences in vocabulary richness between girls and boys. The results were compared with existing research studies. The research findings emphasise the importance of long-term and regular enrichment of vocabulary and highlight the role of teachers in supporting active word usage and communication in the teaching process. This thesis deals with the topic of integrated teaching of Czech language in lower secondary School. Its aim was to find out the possibilities and limits of the implementation of this teaching. The data were collected through action research at Na Rohu1 Primary School where the author of this thesis taught three eighth grades' classes for whole year. For more than a year she designed lessons for these classes based on the principles of integration of the components of the Czech language, constructivism, and the communicative principle. These are documented and reflected in this thesis. A secondary goal of this thesis was to observe the possibilities of conducting independent action research in mainstream settings and at a regular elementary school where it could become a means of professional development for teachers. The theoretical part of this thesis is based on the chapters dealing with the mapping of different conceptions of Czech language teaching and the current situation in the Czech Republic and abroad. These are followed by chapters dealing with the principles that were used to determine the principles for the development of individual lessons. Attention has also been paid to the description of the principles of action research. Czech and foreign sources were used. The bulk of the...
Syntax as a Critical Part of the Czech Language Education at Upper Primary School
Vyhnánková, Lenka ; Hájková, Eva (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eliška (referee)
The thesis deals with critical points in teaching syntax at the lower secondary level of elementary school. The aim of the thesis is to identify the causes of the teacher's attitude towards syntax as a critical point in the teaching of Czech language at the lower secondary level of elementary school and to determine whether the goal of teaching syntax is fulfilled, which we consider to be the development of students' abilities and skills aimed at improving their language practice. Teacher attitudes are investigated using a questionnaire survey. Based on the findings from this survey, an analysis of entrance exams and a second questionnaire survey are also conducted, which aims to confirm and refine some of the findings from the first questionnaire survey, mainly related to the reduction of syntactic teaching content. The thesis further examines students' attitudes towards syntactic content and analyzes their work from a syntactic perspective. In the theoretical part, we describe theoretical background, comment on critical points in teaching syntax and the syntax system itself, describe the framework educational program, textbooks, and syntactic teaching content for individual grades. In the practical part, we first introduce the research methodology and set the assumptions that are evaluated in the...
Integrative Approach to Poetry in the Sixth Grade of Lower Secondary School
Pretschner, Adéla ; Komberec, Filip (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eliška (referee)
The presented thesis deals with the integration of the components of Czech Language and Literature, i. e. the integration of Communication and Composition, Language, and Literary Education. Regarding the literary texts, which are the content of Literary Education, the thesis focuses on poetic texts. The aim is to defend the irreplaceability of poetry in human life, and therefore to defend its place in primary and lower secondary education. Based on scholarly literature, the thesis finds the importance of poetry not only in its specific use of language which, when perceived, develops logical thinking about language and provides an aesthetic experience, but also in its ability to stimulate the emotional aspect of personality. Through this stimulation, poetry can help students to reflect on their emotions, to better understand themselves, and ultimately to better understand the world around them. The second aim is to contribute to discussions about the change of CLL teaching which is currently very unintegrated. The thesis presents an integrated approach to teaching CLL, inspired by the concept of integrated teaching of Slovak Language and Literature for primary education. As the components of the subject are inherently intertwined, by interconnecting them in teaching, students can naturally learn and...

Critical spelling areas in the 2nd level of elementary school
Choutková, Simona ; Hájková, Eva (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eliška (referee)
This master thesis deals with critical spelling areas in the 2nd level of elementary school. The aim of the thesis is to get an overview of the spelling skills of pupils in one particular elementary school and to find out what spelling areas are the most difficult for pupils on the basis of comparison between different grades. Dictation, gap fill exercises and creative writing are used to investigate pupils' spelling skills. The different forms were chosen because we assume that pupils do not make the same mistakes in all types of spelling exercises. In the theoretical part, spelling is described both from a linguistic and didactic point of view. In the practical part, the research methodology is first presented and assumptions are made, which are evaluated in the conclusion of the paper. The description of the methodology is followed by the research results themselves, which are divided by year and by spelling areas for clarity. The results of the creative writing are commented on separately. The research also investigated how Czech language teachers feel about teaching spelling, how spelling is acquired and whether pupils consider spelling skills important. Our main assumption that pupils in grade 9 would show significantly better spelling skills than pupils in grade 6 was fulfilled in most...
