It emphasizes the gender audit as one of the possible tools of change when asserting the gender equality. The empirical part of this dissertation is investigating the significance of gender audit for asserting the equal opportunities in Česká spořitelna, a. s. Therefore it analyzes a final report of the first gender audit and compares its design with another final report that came out of the second implemented gender audit. It also analyzes the processes the company adopted after the first gender audit to promote the equal opportunities for women and men. The impacts and the efficiency of the measures (either proposed or implemented) are analyzed critically with regard to their influence on the gender equality.

Bouchalová, Alena ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Šprincová, Veronika (referee)
In recent years in Europe, the veiling of the muslim women has become a political issue. Various laws were passed in order to regulate the appearance of the islamic veil in public. Such policies caused several protests and led to many debates over the meaning of the veil. In this thesis I focus on academic contributions to these debates. My aim is to find out what veiling stands for in the academic literature that deals with the situation in Europe (including Turkey). Both books and articles concerned with islamic veil are examined by means of the qualitative content analysis. Building on the principles of the feminist research, I also evaluate the methodologies of selected works. Another pursued aspect of the analysed texts is the use of the concept of gender.

Stryková, Iveta ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Šprincová, Veronika (referee)
Promoting equal opportunity - competition "Office of the 2009". The theme of this thesis is the competition "Fifty-fifty" - respect for equal opportunities of women and men that emerged at the initiative of NGO Gender Studies, o.p.s. and the Ministry of Interior. The theoretical part focuses on the theoretical foundations and legislative basis of equal opportunities for women and men. I also represent an institutional apparatus that may serve as the basis when asserting the equal opportunities, including basic documents. I also refer to the non-state sector activities and individual types of instruments for promoting equal opportunities. For the context of the competition, the activities of the coordinator of gender equality issues in the Ministry of Interior, which are also the part of the theoretical part, are also important. The empirical part focuses mainly on the methodology of the survey which I used when setting up a new questionnaire for the purposes of the competition. It is the setting of the improved questionnaire that would enable easy evaluation is also the goal of my thesis.

Political parties as a barrier for women entering high-level politics
Mildorfová, Jaroslava ; Havelková, Hana (advisor) ; Šprincová, Veronika (referee)
Using a theoretical framework that combines public policy and feminist theories, this thesis examines the low representation of women in parliament and in the leadership of political parties. It contends that women as a group are discriminated against in the arena of political parties, which in turn is a contributing factor to their under-representation in high-level politics. The thesis consists of two main analytical elements. The first examines the rhetoric used by the five main political parties in the Czech Republic as regards their policies on the equal representation of women and men. It contrasts this rhetoric with the reality as demonstrated by the latest statistics on women's representation on candidate lists (Parliamentary Elections 2010) and in the leadership of political parties. The second analytical element consists of a case study of the Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD). It analyses the conditions (feminist activism, internal party dynamics, permeability of party leadership) that the CSSD should meet in order to become an example of good practice as regards parity of representation. An analysis of where the party currently stands in relation to these objectives supports the conclusion that there is a discrepancy between rhetoric and practice. This discrepancy, in addition to the...
Participation or Representation? Two Models of Bringing Women into Politics
Šprincová, Veronika ; Havelková, Hana (advisor) ; Kolářová, Marta (referee)
Participation or Representation? Two Models of Bringing Women into Politics The question of underrepresentation of women in decision-making is one of the most important issues of feminist thought. Within inquiry of this problem the terms "political representation of women" and "political participation of women" are often used as synonyms without considering their different sense. The aim of this thesis is to show that concepts of "representation" and "participation" refer to two different ways of justifying bringing more women into politics. The first type can be considered as stronger claim due to carrying two additional questions - who and what should women in politics actually represent. In my view representation is connected first with the issue of interests and second with some concept of women's identity. The second type - participation - is presented as weaker claim in the sense of demanding "only" actual access to rights which are formally secured for women (or rather persons identified as women) on the basis of justice. Practical use of these two models is illustrated on the case of affirmative action and its justification. Keywords: feminism, political participation, political representation, political philosophy, affirmative action
