This bachelor thesis consists of two parts. The first part contains a Czech translation of chapters 8, 9 and part of chapter 10 from the popular science book Le grand roman des maths: de la préhistoire à nos jours by the French author Mickaël Launay. The book deals with the history of mathematics and the selected chapters named "La force des triangles", "Vers l'inconnue" and "À la suite" focus on trigonometry, equations and number sequences respectively. The second part of this thesis consists of a translation commentary, which includes a detailed translation analysis of the source text, a description of the translation method and a reflection on selected translation problems and their solutions.

Reception of Czech literature in Greece - Bibliography of Czech literature published in Modern Greek

This diploma thesis is a presentation and analysis of a bibliography of translations of Czech literature into Modern Greek. The bibliography contains works of fiction, poetry and drama, as well as non-fiction. It was created based on research conducted in both Greek and Czech libraries using also online sources and information gained through interviews and from other sources. In the first part of the thesis, in the course of several chapters, we first compare the main characteristics of Czech and Greek bookmarkets, then define the scope of our bibliography and finally the sources used for its creation. In the second part we give a description of the common features of the recorded editions so as to allow a better understanding of the approach of Greek publishers to Czech literature and its general image in Greece. The description is underlined by historical excursions into the evolution of the Greek bookmarket that explain the selection of translated Czech works. The last part of the thesis consists of smaller chapters dedicated to some of the more significant catalogued translations.

This bachelor thesis Annotated translation: Échappez-vous du labyrinthe de la procrastination (Ferret-Rincon, Laura: Échappez-vous du labyrinthe de la procrastination, Kiwi, Paris, 2021, p. 51-85) is divided into two parts. In the first part comes the translation of the original text from French to Czech and in the second part its commentary. In the first part you can find the translation of twenty standard pages of the book from a French writer Laura Ferret-Rincon which was published by a Parisian publishing house Kiwi in 2021. The second part is composed of the commentary to the translation which is divided into four parts. The first part represents the analysis of the original text, the second one the summary of the translation issues faced, the third one is composed of the description of the translation methods used and at the end you can find the typology of the differences between the original and the translation. Quality of amateur and professional translation of film subtitles

(in English): The aim of this thesis is to discuss the issue of quality of audio-visual translation in amateur and professional environments and to examine the impact of the quality of subtitle translation on the viewer's understanding and overall impressions of the film. As a part of our empirical research, we conducted a translatological analysis of Czech subtitles for the French comedy Le sens de la fête (C'est la vie!, 2017) and the social drama Les misérables (2019). Subsequently, using the focus group method (group interviews), we organized an experiment with 6-7 participants, during which we showed a part of the film with professional subtitles to one group of viewers and with amateur subtitles to another group, and then we tried to verify their impressions and overall understanding of the film as well as their perception of the quality of the subtitles. The results obtained from each group were compared with each other and then with the findings from our translatological analysis. Among other findings, the study shows that quality had an impact on the overall impressions and understanding of the film, especially for the first film, which was based on long dialogues, jokes and wordplays, and where the difference in quality between the professional and amateur versions was more marked. Equivalence and frequency asymmetry in translations from French to Czech

The thesis deals with the specific translatological problem of frequency asymmetry in translation. Frequency asymmetry refers to the situation when equivalents are found in a translation that have an asymmetric frequency compared to the original, which can be a source of markedness. The theoretical framework of the thesis consists of defining the concepts related to frequency asymmetry in translation (equivalence, translation shifts, false friends (faux amis), translation universals, interferences, and markedness) and describing the existing knowledge in the field published by (especially) foreign translatologists and linguists. We also briefly discuss corpus linguistics and its use in translatology, since in the practical part we work with language corpora, specifically with parts of the InterCorp v14 - French, InterCorp v14 - Czech and SYN v10 corpora. In the practical part of the thesis, we use the sub-corpora we have created to investigate the degree of frequency asymmetry not only in translations from French into Czech, but also between untranslated (original) and translated Czech, especially at the lexical level and at the level of collocation. Maryam Madjidi: Marx et la poupée. A thesis consisting of a translation of the book, supplemented by a study on the subject of French authors of Iranian origin and their contribution to French literature

The aim of this diploma thesis is to create a Czech translation of the first part of the novel Marx et la poupée by the Iranian-French author Maryam Madjidi and to complement it with a study that will introduce the issue of French authors of Iranian origin in a broader context. The first part of the thesis consists of a theoretical study that discusses in more detail the Iranian diaspora in France, the literary production of its members, as well as the reception of their works in the Czech Republic. The second part of the thesis presents the actual translation of the first part of the novel Marx et la poupée and the third part is devoted to a commentary on this translation, in which the author, the translated work, its characteristic features and selected translation problems will be presented in more detail. The work Commented translation: Lace wars. Uniforms and equipment of the Household of the French King and infantry soldiers under Louis XV. and Louis XVI., and of the British and Prussian infantry in the years of 1700-1800 consists of two parts: A Czech translation of the first part of the above mentioned publication, and a commentary on this translation. The commentary concentrated on the differences between the two languages (French and Czech) and on the translating strategies ensuing from these. It describes the structure of the text (the book as well as the chosen part) and gives information on the authors and the editor. As to translation, special attention has been paid to grammatical, lexicological, terminological, stylistic and factual aspects of the translated text, cohesion and coherence as well as mistakes and unclarities. The motives for choosing the text are listed, together with reasons of the importance of its translation. A brief conclusion and bibliografy follow.
