Youth delinquency and peer pressure
Spišáková, Katarína ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Novopacká, Martina (referee)
Young people are often exposed to social pressure from their peers, which can affect their behavior and decision-making during adolescence. This influence is particularly visible in the area of delinquency, where peer pressure plays an important role in adolescents' decisions to engage in risky or deviant behavior. This bachelor thesis deals with youth delinquency and peer pressure. The main goal of the thesis is to find out to what extent peer pressure and peer conformity are related to individual delinquency. The thesis is mainly focused on the theoretical part, which is mostly based on foreign research focused on peer pressure and peer conformity. The work continues with criminological theories related to youth delinquency. The last chapter of the theoretical part is focused on crimes that are common among adolescents, such as drug use. In the empirical part of the work, the method of secondary analysis is used. Questions from the ISRD-3 (International Self-Report Delinquency Study) are used for secondary data analysis. The proposed hypotheses examine the relationship between individual delinquency and peer delinquency, leisure activities, and the degree to which an individual considers what peers think of him to be important. Key words: delinquency, peer pressure, peer conformity, adolescent, peers
Factors affecting revenge porn from the perspective of victimology
Krajíčková, Michaela ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Šafr, Jiří (referee)
This thesis focuses on the phenomenon of revenge porn (sharing an intimate photo or video of another person without their consent) and the factors that may influence this phenomenon from a victimological point of view. The aim of the thesis is to learn about the scope of revenge porn and to identify factors that are associated with the likelihood of becoming a victim of this phenomenon, mostly among young individuals. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the central concept of revenge porn, explaining related terms and situating the issue within victimological theories. The empirical part of the thesis focuses on testing selected risk factors using data from the International Self-Report Delinquency Study (ISRD4) and a supplementary survey to the ISRD4 conducted through the Czech National Internet Panel. The data are processed using logistic regression of the probability of victimization. Factors found to be associated with a higher likelihood of being a victim of revenge porn include a higher propensity to take risks, lack of emotional support from parents, and parental conflict. Furthermore, in two out of three models, higher likelihood of being a victim of revenge porn was found for poorer family economic status and spending more time on social media. Only one of the models showed a...
Juvenile Delinquency in the Czech Republic: A Social Learning Perspective
Sauka, Una ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on testing the social learning theory (Roland L. Akers) on a sample of Czech youth. For this purpose, Czech data from the International Self-Report Delinquency Study 4, in the implementation of which I participated, are used. The theory is tested on a specific delinquent act, which is theft. The main theories of the work is the theory of social learning, which is build on and develops the theory of differential association. The first part of the work is mainly devoted to the presentation of these starting points. The methodological part follows, where space is devoted to the specification of the research project, from which we draw data for analysis, and then to the formulation of the hypotheses that are tested. In the analytical part, we move to the actual testing of the theory, where bivariate relationships between variables are first projected, followed by multivariate analyses. The results of the analyzes indicate the validity of the social learning theory in the context of theft on a sample of Czech youth. Key words juvenile delinquency; social learning theory; International Self-Report Delinquency Study
Risk Factors for Hate Crime Perpetration Among Czech Youth
Líbalová, Kateřina ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
The master's thesis aims to identify possible risk and protective factors of hate crime among the Czech youth and examine these factors using Czech data from the fourth wave of the International Self-Report Deliquency Study (ISRD 4). The factors of committing hate crime include factors resulting from general strain theory, social disorganisation (neighbourhood and school environment), moral acceptability of committing hate crime, self-control, and vindictiveness. In the theoretical part, attention is devoted to the definition of the term hate crime and the introduction of Czech translations, as well as the problems associated with the unclear conceptual and legislative definition of hate crime and their conviction. Furthermore, the individual factors of committing hate crime are briefly introduced and the characteristics of the perpetrators of hate crime are also discussed. The last part of the theory is devoted to introducing the typology of hate crime offenders. In the analytical part, the results of the analyses are presented using Czech data from the international ISRD 4 research. The results show that moral acceptability of committing hate crime, seeking revenge and to some extent disorganisation of the school environment are significant factors of committing hate crime among the Czech youth....
Execution of imprisonment from the point of view of convicted men
Drahoňovský, Jan ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Dirga, Lukáš (referee) ; Nedbálková, Kateřina (referee)
PhDr. Jan Drahoňovský EXECUTION OF IMPRISONMENT FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF CONVICTED MEN 2023 Abstract The subject of this thesis is serving of prison sentences by male prisoners in standard prisons in Czech Republic. The aim is to develop a theoretical model of the social stock of knowledge of convicts, which serves them to organize their daily experience and to navigate their sentence. To do this, qualitative field research was conducted in a typical high security prison. Data was collected in the form of twelve unstructured interviews that were subsequently analyzed by reflexive thematic analysis methodology (Braun & Clarke, 2022). Based on the results of the analysis, a theoretical model was constructed. It consists of six interrelated themes that form a body of social knowledge of convicts. The results were discussed in relation to existing knowledge, the methodology used, validity and potential applications to penitentiary practice. Keywords Sociology of prison life, execution of imprisonment, convict, social constructivism, field research, reflexive thematic analysis
Divorce and juvenile delinquency
Brožová, Pavlína ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Klusáček, Jan (referee)
This bachelor's thesis examines the relationship between youth delinquency and divorce and other connections. Our aim is to describe this relationship and to test the stated hypotheses that have been formulated based on Social bond theory (Hirschi 1969/2008), Strain theory (Agnew, 1992), Power control theory (Hagan et al., 1985) and other research. The hypotheses are tested on Czech data from an International Self-Report Delinquency study (ISRD-4). The first part presents the previous findings on the association between divorce and youth delinquency. Later the hypotheses and the ISRD-4 study are introduced. The relationship between divorce and delinquency is statistically significant, however it is a weak relationship. A more significant association with youth delinquency is found for parental supervision or emotional support. Thus, the study confirms that although divorce emerges as a significant factor, other factors are more relevant for more precise prediction. However, examining the family environment in general is important. Key words divorce; youth delinquency; selfreport research; strain theory; social control; Czech Republic
The influence of teachers on student's attitudes towards school
Pínová, Ester ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Spitzerová, Markéta (referee)
This paper examines the relationship between student autonomous motivation to study science and teaching methods. The aim of this thesis, is to investigate how students' motivation to study science is related to teaching methods, based on data from the PISA 2015 survey. To test the hypotheses was used hierarchical regression analysis. The relationship between autonomy-motivating teaching methods and students' autonomous motivation to study science was investigated in this bachelor thesis. To test the stated hypotheses, hierarchical regression models were used to examine the effect most of motivating instructional method on three dependent variables: students' popularity of science learning, students' interest in science, and students' participation rates in science activities. The results confirmed our hypotheses for almost all instructional methods. Although the effects were not very strong, autonomous- motivating instructional methods had a positive effect on all variables studied. Students who showed higher levels of use of these methods in instruction showed more enjoyment of science learning, more interest in science, and also participated more actively in science activities. Among the teaching methods, the strongest predictors were student perceived feedback, inquiry-based instruction, and...
Transgenerational transmission of aggressive behavior in connection with domestic violence
Radimecká, Magdaléna ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Podaná, Zuzana (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of domestic violence in connection with the intergenerational transmission of aggressive behaviour. The aim of this work is to test the hypotheses on data from Pilot Survey of Students from 2018. The first part of the thesis presents theories that explain the origin or reproduction of domestic violence. In addition to the theory of intergenerational transmission, it is, for example, the theory of social learning, which is often cited together with the above-mentioned theory. I also deal with methodological aspects and specifications of Pilot Survey of Students from 2018. In this part of the work also set of hypotheses for subsequent analysis is formulated. In the analytical part, the results of the analyzes are presented, their interpretation and hypotheses tested, the validity of which was confirmed through secondary data analysis. The conclusions from the conducted research thus confirmed the validity of the main thesis of my bachelor's thesis: "The intergenerational transmission of aggressive behavior has an effect on the reproduction of domestic violence". Key words: domestic violence, aggressive behavior, intergenerational transmission
The relationship between work values and age in the context of organisational culture
Novák, Matěj ; Mudd, Dana (advisor) ; Podaná, Zuzana (referee)
How to adapt the work environment to people of all ages because of the generally perceived differences in work values is a large topic in the fields of management, psychology and sociology. This bachelor thesis examines whether differences in work values do indeed occur between age groups, and if, what these differences are. In addition to the analysis of the relationship between age and work values itself, the author focuses on the concept of generation as an independent variable, but finds shortcomings when analyzing said variable. The topic is anchored in the context of corporate culture because of the tight correlation with work values. The theoretical part of the thesis, in which the author attempts to summarize the current knowledge in the field of this issue, is supported by secondary data analysis in the practical part, where the author analyzes work values of a borrowed dataset for the purpose of the bachelor thesis. In the bachelor thesis, the relationship between work values and age was established. The relationship with age was found for example for financial evaluation, career advancement, job interestingness, job security and the tendency to change jobs. The thesis also explored the view of managers as people intervening in the running of the corporate culture and how they perceive...
Is multi-year grammar school a clear choice? Two possible tertiary educated parents' reasons for keeping their children in mainstream middle schools
Absolonová, Josefína ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Sládek, Jan (referee)
Czech multi-year grammar schools (a school type for children 11-18 years old, parallel to mainstream middle schools for children 11-14 years old and to high schools including four- year grammar schools for children 15-18 years old) belong to internationally researched phenomenon called selection, meaning sorting pupils based on school performance. Those who are placed in high tracks are usually children of parents with high cultural capital. For the parents, its mean of reproduction of that capital. It could be assumed that Czech tertiary educated parents would enrol their children in multi-year grammar schools, but a noticeable part of them is not doing so, even though they don't face any obvious obstacles. This thesis conducts a secondary analysis of Pisa-L 2003-2006 data, and it has concluded that to provide children with more time for their interest clubs or hobby clubs is not a reason to keep children in middle school. It has also concluded that parents of middle schools pupils tent to have more negative attitudes towards multi-year grammar schools. It is possible that these attitudes have influenced their decision to educate them in middle schools, but this type of analysis cannot prove causality.
