Staročeská slovní zásoba byla obohacována přejímkami z cizích jazyků, zvl. latiny a němčiny. V některých případech docházelo k formální shodě přejímky a domácího slova. Na příkladu dvou paronym žejdl a žejdlík je demonstrována tendence se takové homonymii vyhnout. The Old Czech vocabulary was enriched by new words from foreign languages, especially from Latin and German. The loan coincides formally with a vernacular word or with a loan from another language. A parallel tendency to avoid such homonyms is demonstrated on the example of two formally similar words žejdlík and žejdl.
