Předmětem této práce je zkoumání problematiky sociálně-kritického významu umění v estetické koncepci Theodora W. Adorna. K tématu přistupuji prostřednictvím rekonstrukce pojmu estetické syntézy; ten se sice v Adornově Estetické teorii i v interpretacích Adornovy estetiky objevuje spíše okrajově, ve své práci však ukazuji, že velmi dobře zastřešuje dvě linie Adornova uvažování o způsobech, jakými se umělecká díla mohou kriticky vymezovat vůči společnosti. Zaprvé jde o Adornovo tvrzení, že umělecká díla kritizují společenský systém skrze svůj vlastní rozum. Zadruhé se jedná o Adornovo přesvědčení, že svého sociálního významu dosahují umělecká díla výhradně skrze své formální, estetické prostředky. Z perspektivy estetické syntézy coby principu vlastního uměleckým dílu pak v práci vysvětluji Adornovo chápání utopického a subverzivního aspektu umění. Klíčová slova Theodor W. Adorno; kritická teorie; estetická syntéza; utopie; umění a společnost This dissertation thesis concerns itself with the problem of the social-critical meaning of art in the aesthetic conception of Theodor W. Adorno. I approach this topic by reconstructing the notion of aesthetic synthesis; while marginal in Adorno's Aesthetic Theory and interpretations of his aesthetics, I argue that it can encompass two lines of Adorno's thinking about the possibilities of the artwork's critical stance towards society. Firstly, Adorno claims that artworks criticize the social system via their reason. Secondly, Adorno believes that works of art can achieve their social meaning only through their formal, aesthetic means. In the final part of the thesis, I explain Adorno's understanding of the utopian and subversive aspects of art from the viewpoint of aesthetic synthesis. Keywords Theodor W.
