Tato práce se zabývá tématem Polybiovy anacyklózy, tedy teorií koloběhu politických režimů, a aplikuje ji na moderní dějiny Francie, od Francouzské revoluce až po současnost. Snaží se tak otestovat relevanci předmoderního cyklického politické myšlení na moderním historickém vývoji. Cílem této práce je zodpovědět výzkumnou otázku, zda lze využít Polybiovu teorii anacyklózy pro vysvětlení moderního dějinného vývoje Francie. Nejdříve je proto provedena analýza Polybiovy optiky, která klade důraz na institucionální nastavení režimu a jeho ústavu. Poznatky o Polybiově perspektivě jsou dále uplatněny při rozboru jednotlivých státních zřízení ve Francii. K intepretaci Polybiova díla v této práci slouží komentář historika Franka Williama Walbanka a pro klasifikaci režimů ve Francii jsou navíc využity moderní politologické přístupy jako otázky Andrewa Heywooda nebo dataset Klasifikace politických režimů 1800-2016, které Polybiovo hodnocení doplňují. Výsledkem této práce je evaluace všech režimů z moderní historie Francie a jejich porovnání s fázemi anacyklózy. I přesto, že lze určité paralely mezi moderními dějinami Francie a anacyklózou pozorovat, vývoj Francie zůstává lineární a s cykličností Polybiova koloběhu ústav zcela nesouhlasí. This thesis explores the theme of Polybius' anacyclosis, the theory of the cycle of political regimes, and applies it to the modern history of France, from the French Revolution to the present. In doing so, it seeks to test the relevance of pre-modern cyclical political thought to modern historical developments. This thesis aims to answer the research question of whether Polybius' theory of anacyclosis can be used to explain modern historical developments in France. Therefore, an analysis of Polybius' optics is first conducted, which emphasizes the institutional setting of the regime and its constitution. The insights of Polybius' perspective are then applied to the examination of the particular state systems in France. In addition, the commentary of historian Frank William Walbank is consulted to interpret Polybius' work in this thesis, and modern political science approaches such as Andrew Heywood's questions and the Classification of Political Regimes 1800-2016 dataset are used to classify regimes in France, which supplement Polybius' assessment. The result of this work is an evaluation of all the regimes in the modern history of France and their comparison with the phases of anacyclosis.
