Tato práce se zabývá románem Hluk padajících věcí kolumbijského spisovatele Juana Gabriela Vásqueze. Děj se z velké části odehrává v Bogotě a nastiňuje problematiku obchodu s drogami, události let narkoteroru a jejich dopad na kolumbijskou společnost. Hlavním cílem práce je stručně přiblížit čtenáři dobové události, jejich dopad na kolumbijské obyvatelstvo, analyzovat, jakým způsobem je autor zobrazuje v díle, jaké stylistické a jazykové prostředky používá, a jak lze obraz Kolumbie ilustrovat nejen na popisu okolí, kde se děj románu odehrává, ale také na historických událostech, které zemi zasáhli, a na osudech postav. This thesis deals with the novel The Noise of Falling Things by Colombian writer Juan Gabriel Vásquez. The story is largely set in Bogotá and outlines the issue of drug trafficking, the events of the years of narcoterror and their impact on Colombian society. The main aim of the thesis is to briefly introduce the reader to the events of the time, their impact on the Colombian population and to analyse how the author depicts them in the work, what stylistic and linguistic means he uses, and how the image of Colombia can be illustrated not only on the description of the surroundings where the novel takes place, but also on the events that affected the country, and on the fates of the characters.
