Kardiovaskulární onemocnění je jednou z nejčastějších příčin úmrtí jak u pacientů bez diabetu, tak u pacientů s diabetem. V dnešní době však existuje velká řada léčiv zaměřených na potíže kardiovaskulárního systému. Jednou z velmi slibných terapií je používání inhibitorů sodno-glukózového kotransportéru druhého typu (SGLT2). Inhibitory SGLT2 se staly předmětem širokého zájmu v oblasti léčby diabetu 2. typu díky své schopnosti snižovat hladinu glukózy v krvi nezávisle na působení inzulinu. Nicméně, vedle jejich hlavního účinku na kontrolu glykémie se objevují stále jasnější důkazy o jejich příznivých účincích na kardiovaskulární systém, které jsou nad rámcem jejich hypoglykemických efektů. Tyto léky snižují hyperglykémii, vysoký krevní tlak a zlepšují diabetickou retinopatii prostřednictvím mnoha mechanismů, z nichž mnohé ještě nejsou zcela objasněny. Hlavní důraz se klade na zjišťování mechanismů, skrze které tyto léky ovlivňují srdce a cévy, ať už prostřednictvím redukce krevního tlaku, ovlivnění srdečních buněk nebo zlepšení metabolických procesů. Nowadays, a large number of drugs target cardiovascular problems. One of the very promising therapies is the use of sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. SGLT2 inhibitors have gained a wide interest in the treatment of type 2 diabetes (DM2) due to their ability to lower blood glucose levels independently of insulin action. However, in addition to their main effect on glycemic control, there is increasing evidence of their beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system beyond their hypoglycaemic effects. These drugs reduce hyperglycemia, hypertension, and improve diabetic retinopathy through multiple mechanisms, many of which have not been fully explained. The main focus has been on identifying the mechanisms through which these drugs affect the heart and blood vessels, whether by reducing blood pressure, affecting cardiac cells, or improving metabolic processes in blood vessels.
