Cílem diplomové práce je zachytit pohled na osobu sv. Václava v kontextu 90. let 20. století a prvních dvou desetiletí nového tisíciletí. Řešitelka se zaměří na státnost, kterou sv. Václav, jako symbol českého státu, reprezentuje, a odpoví na otázky, jak stát zachází s osobou světce ve veřejném prostoru a kým je podle oficiálního státního narativu sv. Václav pro současnou společnost? Řešitelka nahlédne na sv. Václava ve třech rovinách, které se státním vlivem úzce souvisí, a které mají velký význam pro udržování živosti svatováclavského mýtu a reprezentují oficiální státem uznávaný narativ. První rovinou je pohled na institucionalizaci sv. Václava, tedy jeho způsob tematizace ve výročích, ve výstavách či v samotné státní reprezentaci. Druhou rovinou je popularizace svatováclavské tematiky skrze produkci veřejnoprávních médií České televize a Českého rozhlasu, kteréžto byly zřízeny podle zákona, a jejich úkolem je rozvíjet kulturní identitu obyvatel České republiky a šířit demokratické hodnoty deklarované státem. Třetí rovinou je pak prezentace sv. Václava ve školním vzdělávání. Řešitelka svou prací prozkoumá, do jaké míry je osoba sv. Václava ve společnosti živá a jakým způsobem skrze ni nahlížíme na období raného středověku. The aim of the thesis is to capture the view of the person of Saint Wenceslas in the context of the 1990s and the first two decades of the new millennium. The author will focus on the statehood that Saint Wenceslas, as a symbol of the Czech state, represents and answer the questions of how the state treats the person of the saint in the public space and who Saint Wenceslas is for contemporary society according to the official state narrative. The author will look at Saint Wenceslas on three levels that are closely related to the state's influence, and which are of great importance for keeping the Saint Wenceslas myth alive and representing the official narrative recognized by the state. The first level is the view on the institutionalisation of Saint Wenceslas, i.e. the way he is thematised in anniversaries, in exhibitions or in the state representation itself. The second level is the popularisation of the Saint Wenceslas theme through the production of the public service media (Czech Television and Czech Radio), which were established by law and whose task is to develop the cultural identity of the people of the Czech Republic and to disseminate the democratic values declared by the state.
