Topic of this diploma thesis is a comparison of the changes of influence of United States and Russian federation in the Middle East and North Africa after the Arab spring. Arab spring, as major geopolitical event which spurred transformation and changes in regional security order, forced major powers to respond and adapt with their behaviour. Thesis analyses their concrete actions, steps and interests which shaped their view towards the region and puts them into international context and perspective, where it also examines the influence of other factors on the behaviour of great powers and tries to find causal connection in concrete actions. Key Words United States, Russian federation, Middle East, North Africa, Arab spring, security, Syria, Libya Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá porovnávaním zmien vplyvov Spojených štátov a Ruskej federácie v regióne Blízkeho východu a severnej Afriky po udalostiach Arabskej jari. Tá ako dôležitá geopolitická udalosť podnietila transformácie a zmeny v regionálnom bezpečnostnom usporiadaní, na ktoré boli veľmoci nútené svojím správaním reagovať. Práca analyzuje ich kroky, politiku a záujmy, ktoré formovali ich postoj k regiónu a zasadzuje ich do konkrétnych oblastí v ktorých porovnáva zmeny ich vplyvov. Následne je analýza zasadená do medzinárodného kontextu, kde sa skúma vplyv ostatných faktorov na správanie dvoch predmetných veľmocí a tiež zisťuje prípadný kauzálny vzťah medzi konkrétnymi akciami.
