Práce analyzuje proměnu britské zahraniční politiky na počátku šedesátých let dvacátého století a kroky, které konzervativní vláda Harolda Macmillana učinila ve snaze získat členství v Evropském hospodářském společenství. Významná část textu je věnována postoji politických stran, vlivných politiků, tisku, významných institucí a veřejnosti k otázce vstupu. Prostor je také věnován průběhu jednání se zástupci zemí EHS a jeho ukončení, dále rozboru reakce britských i evropských politiků a britského tisku na způsob, jakým žádost vetoval francouzský prezident Charles de Gaulle. The thesis analyses the change of British foreign policy in the beginning of 1960s and the moves which the Harold Macmillan's Conservative governement made in order to gain the membership in the European Economic Community. A significant part of the text is devoted to the attitudes of the political parties, influential politicians, the press, important institutions and the public to the entry. A space is devoted to the process of negotiations with the represenatives of teh EEC and their breaking-up, and also to the analysis of the reactions of British and European politiacians and British press to the way in which the appeal was vetoed by French president Charles de Gaulle.
