Tato teoreticko-historiografická magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá osobností slovenského teoretika překladu Antona Popoviče (1933-1984) a jeho přínosem pro translatologii od konce šedesátých do počátku osmdesátých let 20. století. Práce se zabývá teoretickými a metodologickými východisky Popovičova díla (zvláště Jiřím Levým a Františkem Mikem), analyzuje Popovičovy nejdůležitější práce v oboru translatologie a sleduje domácí i zahraniční kritiku jeho prací a návaznost na ně. Závěrem se autor pokouší o zhodnocení Popovičovy role pro vývoj československé a světové translatologie, zvláště tzv. deskriptivního proudu translatologie, resp. tzv. manipulační školy. Příspěvek této diplomové práce je možné spatřovat především v prvním pokusu o ucelenější pohled na osobnost a dílo Antona Popoviče. This theoretic-historiographical thesis deals with the personality of the Slovak scholar Anton Popovič (1933-1984) and his contribution to translation studies between the late 1960s the early 1980s. The thesis examines the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of Popovič's theoretical work (especially Jiří Levý and František Miko), analyzes his most important publications within the field of translation studies, and discusses criticisms as well as inspirations of his conception of translation. The thesis concludes with an evaluation of Popovič's role in developing Czechoslovak and international translation studies, most importantly of the so-called descriptive translation studies, or the manipulation school. The contribution of this thesis may be regarded primarily as a first attempt at a comprehensive study of the personality and thinking of Anton Popovič.
