Rakousko-uherské aktivity v Číně, 1894-1914 PhDr. Jan Kočvar Tématem mé práce je zhodnocení rakousko-uherských aktivit v Číně v letech 1894-1914, zejména jejich politického aspektu. Kladl jsem si otázku, jaký byl charakter rakousko-uherských kontaktů s Čínou a jaký byl jejich význam pro Rakousko-Uhersko. Klíčovým zdrojem pro mne byly prameny z vídeňského Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchivu. Rakousko-Uhersko navázalo diplomatické styky s Čínou roku 1869, avšak jeho pozice v Číně byla slabá. Po čínsko-japonské válce se Dálný východ dostal do středu zájmu velmocí, a roku 1896 vzniklo rakousko-uherské vyslanectví v Číně. Během boje o koncese a sféry vlivu koncem devadesátých let Rakousko- Uhersko provádělo průzkum čínského pobřeží pro případ, že by tam chtělo zřídit svoji základnu, ale od tohoto plánu ustoupilo. Jeho obchodní a jiné zájmy byly příliš slabé, než aby byla základna v Číně potřeba. Vrchol rakousko-uherské přítomnosti je spojen s tzv. Boxerským povstáním z roku 1900. Rakousko- Uhersko nemělo na událostech vedoucích k povstání podíl. Jeho námořníci během Boxerského povstání bojovali na obležených pekingských legacích i v sídelní provincii Č'-li. Poté se rakousko-uherská diplomacie podílela na jednáních o urovnání vztahů. Rakousko-Uhersko začalo spravovat koncesi v Tiencinu. Hlavní význam Dálného... Austro-Hungarian Activities in China, 1894-1914 PhDr. Jan Kočvar My Ph.D. thesis evaluates Austro-Hungarian activities in China between 1894 and 1914, especially their political aspects. I would like to explain the nature of Austro-Hungarian contacts with China and their significance for the Dual Monarchy. The main source for my thesis was constituted by the materials in Haus-, Hof- und Staatsarchiv in Vienna. Austria-Hungary concluded diplomatic relations with China in 1869, but her position in China remained weak. After the Sino-Japanese War, the Far East became a focus of interest of the Great Powers, and in 1896 was appointed the first Austro-Hungarian Minister to China. During the Scramble for Concessions in late nineties, Austro-Hungarian navy conducted survey of Chinese littoral and contemplated an establishment of a naval base in China, but finally rejected this idea. Austro-Hungarian trade and other interests in China were too insignificant to justify such an action. The peak of Austro-Hungarian presence is connected with the Boxer Uprising of 1900. Austria-Hungary didn't contribute to its genesis.
