The topic of the thesis is women's emancipation movement in Žilina introduced on the basis of an example of local department of Slovak Women's Association Živena between 1918 and 1945. To start with, the thesis presents the situational context of the town in question and its surrounding regions as well as the Živena Association. It deals with the composition of the department's members and the ways it influenced the selection of adressees, the public's attitude towards the department and self-perception of members' role in the public sphere. The thesis analyses also the chosen strategies of the department's admission into the town's public space, external and internal reasons for choosing them and their success rate in the case of promoting women's emancipation thoughts among the local public.Considering the chosen time period, the thesis also focuses on the development of the studied topics influenced by political and social changes taking place in the region of current Slovakia in the covered time period. Diplomová práca sa zaoberá ženským emancipačným hnutím v Žiline na príklade vzniku a pôsobenia miestneho odboru Spolku slovenských žien Živena medzi rokmi 1918 až 1945. Na úvod predstavuje kontext mesta a okolitého regiónu a spolku Živena. Ďalej sa zaoberá zložením členskej základne odboru a tým, ako profil členky Živeny ovplyvňoval výber adresátov aktivít, postoj verejnosti k spolku a vnímanie vlastnej roly vo verejnom živote mesta. Analyzuje tiež stratégie spolku pre vstup do verejného priestoru mesta, vonkajšie aj vnútorné dôvody ich výberu a mieru ich úspechu, rovnako ako mieru úspechu, s akou sa im podarilo pôsobiť na verejnosť v oblasti propagácie ženskej emancipácie. Práca vzhľadom k zvolenému časovému obdobiu mapuje zmeny, ku ktorým došlo v skúmaných aspektoch, v dôsledku politických a spoločenských zmien na území Slovenska v priebehu medzivojnového obdobia a obdobia druhej svetovej vojny.
