Lýkožrout smrkový (Ips typographus L.) je nejběžnějším a nejhojnějším druhem brouka z čeledi Scolytidae v evropských lesích a zároveň nejzásadnějším biotickým faktorem způsobujícím disturbance, čímž zcela zásadně ovlivňuje lesní ekosystémy. V poslední době je tak předmětem velkých diskuzí, jaký management zvolit pro získání optimální rovnováhy mezi ekonomickými, turistickými a přirozenými hodnotami lesa. Mnoho studií ukazuje pozitivní vliv kůrovcových kalamit na přirozenou obnovu lesa a biodiverzitu. Je těžké stanovit, zda jsou tyto gradace pravidelné či nikoli, protože existuje veliké množství faktorů, které je mohou vyvolat. Avšak právě pomocí těchto faktorů můžeme predikovat šance vzniku náhlých populačních explozí. Jedním z těchto způsobů je monitorování přilehlých míst s výskytem kůrovce, protože populační dynamika sousedících oblastí vykazuje určitou míru synchronizovanosti. Za tímto účelem lze provést vícero matematických modelů, například Mantelův test, který stanovuje míru korelace mezi dvěma maticemi. It is the most important biotic factor causing disturbances and affecting forest ecosystems. Thus, it recently became a subject of discussions, how to manage the forests properly in order to find an adequate equilibrium among economical, turistic and natural values of the forest. Many studies have shown a positive effect of bark beetle outbreaks on biodiversity and natural forest regeneration. It is hard to tell if these outbreaks are regular or not because there are many factors which can elicit them. However, just these factors can help us predict the probability of unforseen population outbreak. One of these methods can be monitoring of surrounding areas because these areas tend to be synchronised. For this purpose, multiple mathematical models can be performed, such as the Mantel test, which determines the correlation between two matrices.
