Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje konfliktu na Východním Timoru. Konkrétněji se potom zabývá rolí, jakou hrála Organizace spojených národů při vzniku nezávislé Východotimorské demokratické republiky. Nejprve je v ní stručně popsána historie daného ostrova, což poskytuje východisko pro následující část. V té jsou určeny základní příčiny samostatnosti Timoru a zároveň též zhodnocen jejich význam. Závěrečná pasáž je potom věnována samotné roli OSN se speciálním zaměřením na období mezi roky 1999 až 2002. Práce je koncipována jako jednopřípadová studie. It focuses on the role which the UN played during the formation of the independent Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. At first, it describes the history of the island which provides a background for the subsequent research. The next part examines the causes which led to the independence of East Timor.
