Asymetrie obličeje ovlivňuje život člověka, zejména v kontaktu s ostatními lidmi. Jedinci s patologickými asymetriemi mohou mít problémy se začleňováním se do kolektivu, ať už v dětství ve škole, či později v dospělosti v kolektivu pracovním. Existence a velikost asymetrie se podílí i na úspěchu při hledání životního partnera, přičemž jemné fluktuační asymetrie odráží potenciální kvalitu genů jedince. Vědecký výzkum zaměřený na měření a hodnocení obličejové asymetrie poskytuje cenné poznatky pro nejrůznější odvětví medicíny, především pro plastickou chirurgii a ortodoncii, ale i pro forenzní vědy, kde jsou využity k identifikaci osob. Asymetrie vznikají již v prenatálním období, následně se během života vyvíjí a mění díky působení mnoha faktorů vnějšího i vnitřního prostředí. Facial asymmetry affects human life, especially in relationships with other people. Individuals with pathological asymmetries may have difficulty with integration into the collective, whether in childhood at school or later in adulthood at work. Presence and size of asymmetry reflects the potential quality of an individual's genes. Scientific research focused on measurement and evaluation of facial asymmetry provides valuable knowledge for various branches of medicine mainly for plastic surgery and orthodoncy, but also for forensic science, where it is used for personal identification. Asymmetries develop in the prenatal period and then they envolve and grow by the influence of external and internal factors during lifetime.
