The aim of this thesis is to investigate the differences in vowel duration between the Received Pronunciation and Standard Scottish English. The theoretical part is concerned with the description of phonological systems of RP and SSE, and with the comparison of these two inventories. The second part of this thesis processes the sound material from six British and six Scottish speakers, and statistically analyzes the obtained data. Teoretická část této práce se zabývá popisem fonologických systémů obou variet a následným porovnáním těchto systémů.
