Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na otázku vzdělávání zdravotně postižených dětí, možnost jejich začlenění do většinové společnosti a přijetí speciální školy jako dočasně přípustné alternativy na cestě k plné integraci. Práce pomocí kvalitativní případové studie ověřuje myšlenku Toma Schmida, že i speciální škola může být pro děti s kombinací handicapů vhodnou možností vzdělávání v případě, že není goffmanovskou totální institucí, plní sociální funkce školy a respektuje individualitu žáka včetně přijetí jeho postižení jako součásti osobnosti. Práce vymezuje základní funkce školy, definuje postiženého a jeho možnosti ve vzdělání, popisuje hodnotový přístup majority k postižením a vysvětluje totální instituci v pojetí E. Goffmana i novějších autorů. Studie na základě zúčastněného pozorování, rozhovorů a analýzy oficiálních dokumentů školy interpretuje totálnost instituce ve vztahu k její uzavřenosti, kterou vybraná speciální škola nedemonstruje fyzickými bariérami v duchu konceptu E. Goffmana, ale své chovance k sobě připoutává jinými prostředky. Práce dále vztahuje výzkumná zjištění k otázce integrace a snaží se rozvést Schmidovy podmínky přípustnosti speciální školy. This bachelor's thesis focuses on the problem of education for children with physical disabilities. It discusses the possibility of their integration into the mainstream society and it opens a question of a special educational needs school as an acceptable alterna- tive on the way to a full inclusion. Through qualitative case study, it verifies Tom Schmid's idea that this kind of school may be a possible option only if it is not a total institution as E. Goffman puts it, it keeps the social functions of a school and respects student's individuality while concerning the handicap as part of his personality. The text specifies basic school functions, defines physical disabled people and their educa- tional opportunities and it describes the concept of total institution by E. Goffman as well as latter authors. The case study, based on participant observation, interviews and official document analysis, interprets totality of the institution in relation to its closedness that is not demonstrated by physical barriers as in E. Goffman's concept. The school possesses other features to bind its inmates within the walls. The research findings are interpreted in context of integration. It also looks at the conditions of ac- ceptability of special school education proposed by Tom Schmid.
