Jde tedy o analýzu sociologickou, obohacenou o literární pohled. Cílem je objasnit historický vývoj studia davu a analyzovat jednotlivé aspekty davu (jeho negativní zobrazení, patologie davu, kolektivní duši, vůdce davu a psychologické jevy jakými jsou sugesce, identifikace a hypnóza).
