cze Abstract:
The aim of this publication is to provide basic introduction into the history of The Order of the Hermit Friars of Saint Augustine, which was founded on 9th April 1256 on initiative of the pope Alexander IV, by the Bull Licet ecclesiae. The order successively incorporated other north-Italian eremit brotherhoods following the Rule of Saint Augustine. Augustinian Hermits tlourished and expanded during the second half of the 13th century and this lead to early separation of individual provinces, including the Bavarian province which is described in more detail. Document also describes Augustinian masterminds of this province, the beginnings of the reform movement leading later to appearance of Martin Luther and also the main problems encountered by monks during the Hussite movement. The paper also points out at the importance of Augustinians within the process offoundation of central-European universities. The Order of the Hermit Friars of Saint Augustine was one the most important political, social and cultural factors during high and late middle age era in Europe.
