Proces rezidenční suburbanizace, beroucí na sebe často podobu sídelní kaše, se ve vyspělých zemích objevuje od poloviny 18. století, zatímco v České republice se jedná o poměrně nový fenomén, v masovém měřítku pozorovatelný až od 90. let 20. století. Ačkoli se výzkumu suburbií věnovala řada prací, všechny z nich se zabývaly výhradně okolím největších českých měst. V první části práce shrnuje autorka, za použití metody analýzy dokumentů, historický vývoj forem suburbanizace, přičemž se detailně zaměřuje na moderní suburbanizační procesy ve Velké Británii, USA a České republice, důsledky suburbanizace v podobě sídelní kaše a vliv na existenci a fungování místních komunit v nových suburbiích. Dále autorka provedla případovou studii obce Velebov, do níž směřuje suburbanizace z Karlových Varů, za použití metod analýzy dokumentů, kvalitativního a kvantitativního dotazování rezidentů, a zaměřila na skladbu obyvatel, sociální kontakt a celkovou sociální kohezi v rámci obce. Výzkumná zjištění do značné míry potvrzují výsledky předchozích studií a ukazují tak na univerzálnost průběhu suburbanizace na území ČR. Skladba nových obyvatel obce se značně odlišuje od těch původních, což ústí v malou míru sociálních kontaktů a celkově nevyvinuté vztahy mezi oběma skupinami. Lze ale očekávat, že časem dojde v tomto... The process of residential suburbanization, frequently in form of urban sprawl, takes place in the developed countries since mid 18th century. On the other hand, in the Czech Republic it is relatively new phenomenon, heavily appearing since 90s of the 20th century. Although many previous studies were focused on newly built suburbs, all of them took place in the surroundings of the biggest Czech cities. In the first part of the thesis the author sums up historical development of suburbanization's forms (by analyzing the available documents) and focuses especially on modern suburbanization processes in the Great Britain, USA and the Czech Republic, consequences of suburbanization in form of urban sprawl and effect on existence and function of communities in new suburbs. The author then uses a case study approach to study Velebov village (which is the target of suburbanization from Karlovy Vary) and, while using methods of analysis of the documents, qualitative and quantitative interviewing of residents, focuses on composition of inhabitants, social contacts and overall social cohesion within the village. Research findings mostly support results of previous studies and thus imply universality of suburbanization process within the Czech Republic.
