Práce se snaží, na příkladě města Žamberka, shrnout různé aspekty soužití menší vojenské posádky a čistě českého příhraničního prvorepublikového maloměsta. Nejprve je stručně nastíněna historie města a jeho stav v době příchodu první posádky, text se poté věnuje počátečním ubytovacím problémům, stavbě vojenských ubikací a jejich financování. Hlavní stať se dále zabývá vlivem přítomnosti armády na hospodářský či kulturní život města a naopak. Je zde také na příkladech zdůrazněn (převážně) kladný vztah městského obyvatelstva k armádě jako celku. Část práce se pak pokouší, jak jí to dostupné prameny dovolí, popsat vlastní život posádky a analyzovat její národnostní či náboženské složení. The work tries, on the example of the town of Žamberk, to incorporate different aspects of coexistence of a garrison and a purely Czech small border town at the time of the First Czechoslovak Republic. First, the history of town and its then state, is briefly outlined, the text is then devoted to the initial accomodation problems, construction of military barracks and their financing. Main article also deals with the influence of the military presence on the economic and cultural life of the town and vice versa. There's also emphasized, on the individual examples, the positive relationship of the urban population to the army as a whole. Part of the work is trying, as available sources permit, to describe the garrison life and analyze its religious or national structure.
