Z hlediska lidského je afázie je typ handicapu, který sice není bezprostředně ohrožující pro postiženého, ale přináší značný diskomfort nejen jemu, ale i jeho okolí. Z hlediska vědeckého představuje obrovskou výzvu pro mnoho oborů. V prvních fázích bádání to byla především neuroanatomie. v průběhu 20.století se k nim přidaly neuropsychologie, kognitivní psychologie a psycholingvistika. Vzhledem k čistě biologické etiologii afázie už bádání přineslo mnoho cenných poznatkú o funkci jednotlivých oblastí mozku při produkci a percepci jazyka. Nové technické možnosti. především moderní funkční zobrazovací metody na jedné straně a diametrálně jiné teoretické přístupy ke studiu mozkové organizace jazyka z pozic kognitivní psychologie na straně druhé ovšem dřívější zavery lokalizacionistických modell! do značné míry zpochybňují nebo přímo vyvracejí. Značný obrat v dosavadních názorech na danou problematiku nastal rovněž poté. co se pozornost badatelú zaměřila i na jiné jazyky než na angličtinu. především na jazyky s daleko větším podílem flexe. Dá se očekávat, že ne příliš vzdálená budoucnost přinese odpovědi na některé další dosud nezodpovězené otázky, ať už se týkají činnosti mozku. či povahy jazyka jako funkčního systému. Tato práce, jak už její název napovídá, je pokusem o zmapování dosavadního stavu výzkumu v... Although the Wernicke-Geschwind model has been for a long time one of the most influential bases for the study of aphasia. its general acceptance seems to have been partly undermined by the use of new imaging methods on the one hand. and recent developments in cognitive psychology and psycholinguistics on the other hand. The main reason is that it fails to account for the fact that the lesions in one brain area can result in a variety of deficits in the processing of language. and similarly the same deficit is often due to the impairment of ditlerent brain structures. This thesis ťirst presents the localizationalist theories. then compares both approaches pointing out their respective interests and limitations and tinally focuses at some length on the assumptions about the brain organization of language production postulated by the cognitive psychology and their reflection in the therapeutic procedures used in the neuropsychological rehabilitation of aphasic patients.
