Jaderné elektrárny upoutaly pozornost veřejnosti z hlediska jejich vlivu na životní prostředí zejména po katastrofě v ukrajinském Černobylu. Byl to především negativní vliv radionuklidů uvolněných do ovzduší po havárii na zdravotní stav lidské populace v celé Evropě.V této souvislosti byla intenzivně studována migrace radionuklidů v ekosystémech a jejich případný přechod do potravního řetězce končícího člověkem. The long-term monitoring of effects of the atomic power plants, especially at the regional level and with irregular extreme events, is difficult despite the complex biological and ecological response. The system of bioindicators is proposed for the monitoring of effects of atomic power plants o biota. Suitable species and biotopes on border of its distribution are recommended as bioindicators predictors for monitoring of climatic change.
