There are also explained important features, which are essential for running of combustion engines. In the second part, there is a theoretical explanation of steam turbine. The main part of the thesis is a project of condensing steam turbine with an integrated gearbox. At first there are chosen basic conceptions, which influence the project; then there is calculated an algorithm for thermodynamic calculation for each turbine module. At the end, there is conducted a simplified calculation of a gearbox and there is also a calculation of payback period of the designed steam turbine. There are made drawings, which are all base on the previous calculations. There are drawings of sectional views of each unit and there is also a drawing of construction arrangement of steam turbine with a generator.

Pusztai, Radek ; Mastný, Petr (referee) ; Baxant, Petr (advisor)
In the first part of the thesis is elaborated a general view on the issue of cogeneration - a joint production of heat and electricity. In addition to technical and economic aspects are also mentioned basic modes of operation of cogeneration units. Furthermore, installation conditions in the family house and legislative acts associated with the operation. The next section describes the technical parameters of the unit - TEDOM T7. Subsequently, the work performed calculations of the energy needs of the family house. In the next part there is an economic calculation of the object with reference to other sources of heat.
Experimental verification of a gas micro-turbine cogeneration system
Buřil, Lukáš ; Konečná, Eva (referee) ; Máša, Vítězslav (advisor)
This master’s thesis deals with problematics of natural gas microturbine integration into industrial laundry operation. This integration means utilization of waste heat for direct drying and water heating in a heat exchanger. This heated water can be used in further laundry processes, for example laundering. All the experiments were carried out on the cogeneration system that is installed in Laboratory of Energy Intensive Processes in NETME Centre at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Brno University of Technology. This system consists of a natural gas microturbine Capstone C30 with nominal electric power of 30 kW, an industrial dryer Primus DX55 with a nominal capacity of 55 kg for laundry and a heat exchanger Vakading type Vakavlas with nominal power of 53 kW. All necessary theoretical and technical preparation was done in order to carry out experiments as follows: • Standard drying program • Water accumulation test • Test of performance of heat exchanger • Direct drying with the use of microturbine’s flue gases These experiments were analyzed and discussed within this thesis. The main contribution of this work is as follows: • Summary of all the knowledge in the area of direct drying • Creation of methodology of utilization of flue gases for direct drying not only in laundry industry but in related fields • Summary of requirements and ways of heat exchanger testing and determination of heat exchanger parameters • Determination of optimal working settings of installed cogeneration system • Description of weak spots in the system and suggested improvements • Basic economic analysis of operating costs During the experiments, it was found that in case of direct drying better results could be achieved in comparison with standard drying. The functionality of the whole system together with the heat exchanger was verified and thus also the possibility of integrating the turbine into the washing process was confirmed. The integration of a natural gas microturbine is both technically and economically feasible for many industrial applications.
Biomass Heating Power Plant Brno-nord
Saňka, Marek ; Skála, Zdeněk (referee) ; Fiedler, Jan (advisor)
The master’s thesis topic is the feasibility study of new biomass source construction in power heating plant Brno-North. The first part is focused on historical and current conditions and future development of heat distributions networks and sources of Brno. The power heating plant operation Brno-North is described in more detail including the current heat scheme of operation and plan for the future development. Next chapters are focused on projection of new biomass source. At first, it is defined heat output, operation range and parameters of the new source based on the data of real needs after the heating network modernization. Afterward, selected conceptual variants of the new source are discussed in more detail and for each of the variants are performed heat balance calculation and assembled heat scheme of operation. At the same time it is processed warehouse management calculation and economic analysis of the project. The final chapter evaluates the technical and economic parameters of variants and recommends the most suitable variant of the project.
Cogeneration in units for thermal processing of biomass and waste
Uhmann, Petr ; Šomplák, Radovan (referee) ; Pavlas, Martin (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the cogeneration in units for thermal processing of biomass and waste. The theoretical part deals with the description of biomass and waste and energy recovery from these sources. In theoretical part is also focused on cogeneration and description of computational models of steam turbines. The practical part is focused on a specific calculation of the three steam turbines and comparison of computational models. On the base of the results is designed implementation of computational models to the simulation software W2E.
The combined production of heat and electricity
Talač, Michal ; Formánek,, Marián (referee) ; Počinková, Marcela (advisor)
This thesis describes the design of a cogeneration unit, its design and operational optimization. The theoretical part explains the principles of cogeneration and the associated advantages and disadvantages, also describes the different types of units and their main components and their suitability for use in various types of buildings. The second part of this thesis deals with a design of cogeneration unit in selected building. Design of cogeneration unit consists of evaluation of the object itself, through the selection of suitable units, optimalization of a selected range of cogeneration units, to the final financial analysis. The part of the thesis are also project drawings, which shows the current status of the heating system and subsequently scheme with the possible involvement of cogeneration units in the existing system.
Energy use of biomass
Musilová, Petra ; Brázdil, Marian (referee) ; Baláš, Marek (advisor)
The objective of this bachelor’s thesis is a research study of biomass use in energy industry with main focus on electric energy production. This thesis primarily concerns with biomass properties, biomass processing technologies and the application of such technologies in the Czech Republic. The first part of this work consists of biomass definition and its division. The next part deals with biomass energetic properties and following is a familiarization with cogeneration (the combined use of heat and power to create electricity). Furthermore this thesis analyses individual technologies used in electricity production. The last part focuses on heating plants, power stations and biogas plants, which use biomass and on charting these specific units in the Czech Republic.
