Nuclear Fuel Loading Patterns at VVER Reactor Based Nuclear Power Plants

The Master's thesis focuses on loading patterns of nuclear reactors VVER. It describes the whole process of fuel cycle, since production to storage or reprocessing. The author puts emphasise on the middle part of fuel cycle in Czech nuclear power plants - Dukovany and Temelín and he also explains which fuels are used in both power plants now and which were used in history. The thesis also contains a basic overview of approaches to loading patterns optimisation in foreign countries. The final part of the thesis discusses practical calculation of loading patterns in the Block III of Nuclear power plant Dukovany, by using optimisation programme Athena and Moby-Dick macrocode.

This Master’s thesis deals with optimization of loading patterns of nuclear reactors VVER. In the thesis is described the process of both types of fuel cycle – the closed and the open one. The middle part of fuel cycle containing the optimization process represents the crucial part of the thesis. The thesis is focused on the fuel cycles of the nuclear power plant Dukovany. The problem of the optimization is solved by using different programs. In the final part of the thesis, the program Athena for the loading patterns optimation is explained by a practical calculation for different versions of Moby-Dick macrocode and the calculated values for the optimization of the third unit of the nuclear power plant Dukovany are compared.
SMV-2023-37: CRYSA project - cryostat of the space probe 2

The goal of the project CRYSA is the selection and testing of three composite materials suitable for fixation of a low temperature device (cryostat), which will be part of the upcoming Athena space probe from the European Space Agency (ESA). The Cryogenics and Superconductivity group at the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ISI Brno), OHB Czechspace, 5M s.r.o. and the Institute of Physics of Materials of the CAS (IPM) collaborate on this project. The aforementioned contractual researches carried out at ISI Brno in 2023 were focused on the partial goals of the project. Specifically, the selection of the three best materials, which will be tested in the future, was finalized. Further, detailed procedures for the planned measurements of the thermal conductivity of the samples and the method of their temperature cycling at low temperatures were developed. The members of the Cryogenics and Superconductivity Group also performed optimization of the measuring devices and measured thermal conductivities of several dummy samples. The outputs of this project will help ESA with the selection of the optimal material for the construction of the mechanical supports for the cryostat in the Athena telescope.
SMV-2022-10: CRYSA project – CRYostat Straps for the Athena space telescope

The goal of the project, from the point of view of the Cryogenics and Superconductivity group at the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ISI Brno), resides in a cooperation with OHB Czechspace and the Institute of Physics of Materials of the CAS (IPM) in order to select and experimentally measure the properties of materials suitable for mounting a device at a very low temperature (cryostat straps), which will be part of the upcoming Athena space telescope of the European Space Agency (ESA). The project consortium will conduct a survey of available materials and, based on this review, will select two most suitable and commercially available materials, which will be later tested in individual CAS institutes. Materials must meet two basic properties – high mechanical stiffness and low thermal conductivity. Members of the Cryogenics and Superconductivity group at ISI Brno will perform, with the help of special equipment and cooling using liquid helium bath, thermal conductivity measurements and the exposure of selected materials to low temperatures for next mechanical tests at the IPM. The outputs of this project will help ESA with the selection of the optimal material for the construction of the straps supporting the given Athena cryostat.
The Conception of Virginity in Greek Culture

Maidenhood is an interesting topic in the context of ancient Greek mythology and ritual. Despite the fact that women had a marginal position within the Greek polis, they were important in myth and ritual. Maidens in particular played an interesting part in Greek myth and ritual, mainly because they were in a transitional state between childhood and womanhood. Myths and rituals concerning maidens involve the goddesses Artemis and Hera, who help them with this transition. At the same time, this transitional state of maidenhood helped the girls learn to be women. Maidenhood transformed them from "wild" children into women ready to accept their roles as mothers and wives. One of the key questions that I would like to answer is how Greeks defined the concept of maidenhood. The maidens in myth and ritual that I'm concerned with are for example Pythia, Pandora, Atalanta or the Danaides. But who was a maiden? Why was she such an important figure in myth and ritual? To find an answer to this question I have turned to ancient Greek texts concerning the anatomy and health of women, and ancient Greek mythology and rituals have helped me interpret them. In the context of Greek thought, maidens were self-consistent in a way. They were pure, untouched and that is where their power came from.
Měření drah částic pomocí vnitřního detektoru ATLAS

The SCT is a silicon strip detector forming a part of the tracking system of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The tracking performance of SCT is influenced by several fundamental effects: multiple scattering, Lorentz drift, energy loss variation, noise occupancy, and δ-ray production. In this thesis, the task requested by the SCT detector group has been performed. Clusters containing a δ-ray, which are assigned to a track were studied on data samples, specially prepared for this purpose. A correction to the affected cluster positions was successfully developed. The correction to δ-rays has been implemented into the ATHENA reconstruction framework and its performance was evaluated. A meaningful usage of correction for the detector alignment has been proposed. The ongoing detailed verification of the performance within the event reconstruction is partially beyond the scope of the thesis work.

Specifications Database of Security Protocols

This paper describes four tools for verification security protocols Athena, Casper, Isabelle and Murphi. Each tool is briefly characterized and implementation of protocol Needham Schroeder. One part of this paper is comparing of selected tools. The second part of this paper describes in detail a tool Athena and mentions examples of verified protocols. By each protocol is stated a specifications of communication, a detected attack and results of own verification. At the end compares this paper verification results with already publicated attacks.
