The Castle of Sokolov and its History
Provedené sondy do rodinné korespondence, spadající zejména do 19. stol., naznačují, jaký vztah měli Nosticové ke zdejší oblasti, kdy zde pobývali či jak trávili čas.

Caunty family of Wilczek in the area of Ostrava from 1714
Barvíková, Veronika ; Vlnas, Vít (advisor) ; Parkan, František (referee)
Annotation: This thesis deals with the activity of the county family of Wilczek in the area of Ostrava. The county family of Wilczek was one of the most important family in Silesia. The first member of this Silesian family moved to Těšín principality in the fourteenth century. Within the following centuries the family purchased many estates and they gained a huge land fund into their possession. In the eighteenth century, coal was found on the estate of Slezská Ostrava and they started to mine. Although nowadays they are rather unknown, their behaviour has influenced many people in the area of Ostrava. Life conditions of colliers were really bad. They had to work almost ten hour per day and they got not enough money for it. This situation leads to many stoppages. Jan Maria Wilczek, the most important member of this family wasn't popular because they didn't take care of their employees. County family of Wilczek purchased their estates until 1945. After the Second World War was all of the belonging nationalize. Nowadays they live in Austria.
Josefína Kablíková, personality of Vrchlabí in the 19th century
Limberská, Jana ; Vlnas, Vít (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
In my Diploma thesis I wanted to explore a theme which is close to my region. I decided to write about Josefina Kablíková, a modern and progressive woman of the 19th century. Josefina was an emancipated woman with a very intriguing life story. She was one of a few women botanists of her period. At first, I will present her own biography and a biography of her husband, Vojtěch Kablík. Vrchlabí in the 19th century and its specification is described. The following chapter is devoted to Josefina Kablíková as a botanist. Her botanical research far surpassed the region of Krkonoše. She became famous for her gathering of the Krkonoše flora. Even several botanical species are named after her. Another section illustrates the scientific research of Vojtěch Kablík, a pharmacist and a chemist in Vrchlabí. The last section concerns the Mánes family, who were frequent guests in the house of Kablíkovi. A large number of Mánes's drawings, paintings and portraits came into existence depicting Vrchlabí, its surroundings and Kablíkovi themselves. The aim of this Diploma thesis is to explain significance as well as the life story of the Kablíkovi couple in the context of the period and the region.
The Artist as a Versatile Agent of the Biedermeier Era. Studies on Josef Navrátil
Fiřtová, Marie ; Prahl, Roman (advisor) ; Vlnas, Vít (referee) ; Vondráček, Radim (referee)
The presented dissertation deals with the painter Josef Navrátil (1798-1865) and his social roles during the Biedermeier period. It does not aim to be a classic monograph evaluating the life and work of the artist, but rather strives to provide a collection of independent (case) studies, which will map and point out Navrátil's role in society and his artistic and professional status. Therefore, special interest is paid to Navrátil's clients, the cultural background of his work, his connections, social engagement, and activities in various associations, but also to specific phenomena of the time, such as the so-called Zimmerreise or pub-based "table companies". However, emphasis is also placed on the Navrátil's exceptionally wide range of professional activities, which was so typical of the Biedermeier epoch. In this respect, Navrátil's official occupation - room painting / decorating, which he applied with his renowned painting workshop in many Prague and non-Prague buildings for a wide circle of clients of various social classes (imperial court, church, burghers, landowners), must not be overlooked either. Contracts of this kind reflect not only Navrátil's extraordinary competence in the field, his craftsmanship, undoubtedly stemming from his restoration practice, but also a great deal of artistic...
Society for Old Prague and Circumstances Leading to its Creation (1893-1900)
Svojsíková, Tereza ; Pokorný, Jiří (advisor) ; Vlnas, Vít (referee)
The point of my bachelor thesis "The Society for Old Prague and Circumstances Leading to its Creation (1893-1900)" was to describe an atmosphere in which an idea of a protection of cultural heritage had been formed as well as the most important moments that afterwards lead to the creation of "The Society for Old Prague". 28th January 1900 was the date of The Society's foundation and this date also closes my thesis. Interest in the protection of cultural heritage was awakened by building developments in the centre of Prague in the late 19th century. A new rule governing an urban renewal had been issued in order to improve living conditions in the centre of the city, both in the former Jewish Town, Josefov, and in the nearby parts of the Old Town. The disappearance of some buildings greatly disturbed those who loved Old Prague and because of that a cultural heritage protection movement was formalised.
Hindsinght of Habsburgs Empire by historians from the United Kingdom
Vzhledem k tomu, že nepředpokládám velký zápal Britů o znalost dějin habsburské monarchie, budu své téma rozšiřovat i někdy o starší a nové děj iny Českých zemí.
Historical myth in Julius Zeyer's Work
Křišťanová, Dita ; Vlnas, Vít (advisor) ; Charvát, Petr (referee) ; Hrdina, Martin (referee)
Historical myth in Julius Zeyer's Work PhDr. Dita Křišťanová ABSTRACT: Ph.D. thesis Historical myth in Julius Zeyer's Work is the result of my long standing interest in the writer's personality, in the period of the second half of 19th century and in the problem of historical myths and stereotypes and their mass use. Julius Zeyer constructed meganarration - a whole set of myths that the Czech people were missing. The thesis examines where Zeyer was inspired, how he worked over his knowledge literally and how it was responded by contemporary criticism. At the same time, the thesis is focused on their connection to art, compares, how Zeyer's contemporaries wrote about similar topics. The work is based on the exploration of the writer's works, texts with similar themes, textbooks published after writer's death, archival materials and the press of the 19th century. Aim of this Ph.D. thesis is to prove the uniqueness and elusive concept of intangibility of Zeyer's Czech historical myth. Because of its complexity it could not become a major national idea.
