Reader - response strategy of Lustig's texts
Zimová, Lucie ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
Rigorous work deals with reader-response strategies of some Lustig's texts. Our aim is to prove if Lustig relies on high subject and culture encyclopedia of his readers or if his works have esthetic value without these requirements. First part of this rigorous work is devoted to the theory of reader-response esthetic. We shortly present the main terms and representatives of this concept. In analysis of this works we concentrate us on the story as an interaction of the process, narration, figures and of the space because these levels are the most substantial part for the work response. Rigorous work is always divided into theoretic part which introduces us with the solution for the next analysis and into practical part where we within our scope try to interpret the used strategies. In the chapter "Narration" we mainly focus us on narrator and his possible unreliability further on the speech form and the telling order and speed. In the chapter "Figure as a text phenomenon" we are mainly interested in figure condition and the process of its imaging. Finally in the chapter "Space and its functionality" we are concerned with the problem how Lustig manages (does not) to display functional space without relying on culture encyclopedia of his readers. This show us that Lustig calculates with response horizon and...
Space of Zakarpattia in the Czech Literature
Krabsová, Veronika ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (referee)
This thesis deals with the phenomenon of Carpathian Ruthenia, or Zakarpattia, which is one of the most discussed issues in Czech literature. It expands the traditional view of the issue with a chronological survey of works by Czech authors who were inspired by Carpathian Ruthenia, and maps their writings created from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. It focuses on their interpretation, with particular reference to the topology. The first chapter presents the terminological problems associated with the territory of the Transcarpathian region. The next chapter submits an account of the exceptional nature of this area (its contrasts, periphery, regionalism, myths, exoticism, idylls and adventures), and attempts to characterize its uniqueness (backwardness, belief in superstitions, Jews, alcoholism, poachers, enchanting countryside and outlaws). Carpathian Ruthenia appears to be a place of secrecy, where hypothetical characters grow. The topology of the mountain is also an important element. The following chapter, the longest, presents most of the works by the Czech authors who were inspired by this region. The first of these authors came to Carpathian Ruthenia during the 1920s as government workers or tourists. Their works are arranged within the chapter according to the...
Translation Variations of Apollinaire's Zone
Cihlářová, Eva ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Hník, Ondřej (referee)
The main goal of this dissertation is comparison of different translations of the poem Zone in the czech languague. The key part of this work is an analysis of the translation of selected passage od Zone. The summary which describes each translation of the poem is elaborated on the basis of this part. We can divide the translations of Zone into three basic streams: Karel Čapek and Petr Kopta hold the reproducing style of translation. Petr Skarlant and Karel Sýs prefer a less precise translation enriched with their own invention. Gustav Francl tends rather to the reproducing concept, but we would describe his style more as modernizing. To create sufficiant information foundations for the analysis of translations, the whole first part of the dissertation is dedicated to the theory of artistic translation, the personage of Guillaume Apollinaire, the analysis of Zone and the personages of the Czech translators. Poetics of Tomáš Klus Lyrics
Prchalová, Tereza ; Hník, Ondřej (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
Resume There are two Klus's professions, acting and music, intertwined in the album Racek by the means of the songs inspired by Chekhov's play of the same name. By that connection, there aroused highly respected songs in the Czech music scene. Together with other pieces, they create a lexicon of Klus's peculiar and nowadays highly popular poetics, which is formed especially by frequent metaphors, set phrases, defamiliarization, intertextuality, author's words and expressive, derogatory, bookish, antiquated, diminutive, regional and borrowed expressions. Though his songs consist of various automatized expressions, his lyrics as a unit appear to be original and sincere, and, at the same time, they are understandable for common audience, because he transfers colloquial speech and generally known expressions into them.
Theme of sonhood
Raška, Adam ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This Diploma Thesis analyzes crucial works of the Czech and global literary art of the 20th and the 21st century. Jan Balabán's Zeptej se táty (Ask the Daddy), Emil Hakl's Pravidla směšného chování (Etiquette of Ridiculousness), Son of the Regiment by Valentin Katajev, Kerouac's On the Road, Stříbrný vítr (Silver Wind) by Fráňa Šrámek, Letter to His Father by Franz Kafka and The Road by Cormac McCarthy are all analyzed in terms of theme of sonhood. Similarities and differences are both covered. Relation of sonhood, authority and god is crucial, as well as the change of the whole concept of father - son relationship which occurred in the 20th century. The author of the thesis tries to postulate questions concerning sonhood, which in his opinion should the mankind be asking. Yet it is not his ambition to offer resolute and firm answers. The essay is entwined with an autobiographic prose which completes the analytical part in a refreshing way. Both genres contribute to the final outcome, which is a synthesis offering the possibility of grasping theme of sonhood from a brand new perspective, as sonhood is also the main motif of the prosaic part. Main character, the author of the diploma thesis, is dealing with his relationship to his father, and more importantly his father's relationship to his father, i. e....
