Comparison of the position of the Romanian and Lithuanian Prime Ministers during the reigns of Presidents Klaus Iohannis and Dalia Grybauskaite
Karásková, Kristýna ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the comparison of the positions of the Prime Ministers of Romania and Lithuania during the reign of Presidents Klaus Iohannis and Dalia Grybauskaité. The work deals with the constitutional and practical position of the prime ministers of both countries. Both countries are part of the post-Soviet space and have gone through a democratic transition. At the same time, Romania and Lithuania are countries with a directly elected president and potentially fall into the category of semi-presidential regimes. The position of prime minister in these countries is specific due to the presence of a directly elected president. The work applied a comparative method, specifically a type of so-called contrast of contexts. This theory helps to understand a certain phenomenon through its context. The aim of the work is therefore to point out and understand the similarities and differences in the position of the prime minister, in practice and in the constitution, of these potentially semi-presidential countries. The work also points out to other institutional elements that prime ministers use to balance the presidential role. Attention is also paid to the phenomenon of cohabitation and the position of the prime minister in cohabitation with a non-party president.

Modern Dystopias and Theories of Totalitarianism
Machart, Filip ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Novák, Miroslav (referee)
The diploma thesis Modern Dystopias and Theories of Totalitarianism deals with comparation of this two phenomena. The thesis is based on the concept of Giovanni Sartori. He understands the phenomenon of totalitarianism as ideal ending of the axis totalitarianism- democracy. Extreme points of this axis fulfill the role of unrealizable ideal regimes. In reality we can only move closer to them but modern dystopias may represent these ideal regimes. The diploma thesis is divided into theoretical and practical section. There is the analyse of five books in the theoretical section which deal with the theory of totalitarianism. The analysis contains the work of Sigmund Neumann, Hannah Arendt, Carl J. Friedrich and Zbigniew K. Brzeziński, Giovanni Sartori and Juan J. Linz. Each theory of totalitarianism is supplemented by reflection from other authors. There is the analyse of five dystopias (J. Zamjatin - We, A. Huxley - Brave New World, G. Orwell - Nineteen Eighty-four, M. Atwood - The Handmaid`s Tale, A. Moore, D. Lloyd - V for Vendetta) in the practical section. The analysis contains the storyline of the book, elements of totalitarian regime in the dystopia and inspiration of author for the world of dystopia. Volodymyr Zelensky's election campaign from 2019 as a response to the demands of Ukrainian society
Shvets, Oleksii ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Hájek, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis examines the election campaign of Volodymyr Zelensky, specifically the question of whether Volodymyr Zelensky's brand was created during the election campaign before the presidential election in Ukraine in 2019. If such a brand was created, then whether Volodymyr Zelensky's success in the elections was the result of marketing techniques related to branding only, or whether candidate Zelensky's successful brand was not only the result of competent application of marketing techniques, but also the result of reflection of the public's requests on key socio-political issues. In the theoretical chapter we study the theory of branding in politics and highlight the main characteristics that a modern political brand should possess. In the second chapter, we present the key socio-political issues that worried the public in the period leading up to the elections and directly influenced the campaign. In the next chapter we will present several key factors and events that cannot be categorized as problematic phenomena, but which will also help to understand the reasons for Zelensky's electoral victory. In the next chapter we will examine Volodymyr Zelensky's election campaign and answer the question if Zelensky's political brand was created. In the last chapter we will compare the campaign rhetoric...
