Kozlová, Dana ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kubíčková, Vladimíra (referee)
Chain letters and e-mails are a form of secondary orality. This work determines chain letters as a type of media and looks for message spreadability. The work discusses chain letters spreadability in terms of memetic theory. And looks for fairy tales motifs. The typology is made from chain letters collected from public databases and those forwarded via e-mails and social networks. It is made by form, theme and origin resulting in at least 9 forms and 17 functions. In various forms and functions their usual characteristics and differences are demonstrated . The order by origin explains some differences in the translated messages. It looks for specifics in Czech messages such as racist themes. From structured interviews the criteria of how recipients divide their chain letters and how they select their recipients was discovered. The work refutes the hypothesis that chain letters are spread only among homogeneous groups. In addition, it verifies that the circulating e-mails do not spread easily just because of effortless forwarding. According to the interviews, the main motive for forwarding is the supposedly positive reaction from the recipient.

Čepelák, Václav ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kubíčková, Vladimíra (referee)
1 Abstract The thesis intends to explore the ways of creating the image of Carlsbad Russians in the mass media. These ways are researched by the quantitative content analysis. The sample for this analysis was constructed by a selection of articles from the years 2006-2010 from the Mediasearch database (provided by Newton Media, Corp.) according to described selection criteria. This analysis is set in the context of various sociological theories (esp. to explain the context of the relationship between the Russian community and local population) and several theories that focus on the functioning of media with a special emphasis on the construction of foreign communities' image. The research shows how the media image of Russians in the Carlsbad press has been stereotypized, to what extent they have been individualized in the articles and with which contextual topics they have been connected most often. Another output of the analysis is a typology which characterizes the basic modes of providing information about the community. Relatively low overall number of articles about the Russians shows the difficulty of access of the community to the media. It is demonstrated that in the two strongest types of articles, building and property ownership is connected with Russians and with cohabitation of the two ethnic...

Kubíčková, Vladimíra ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Kraus, Jiří (referee) ; Bína, Daniel (referee)
The belief that economic entities influence media contents and shape them through their public relations professionals, is shared with an increasing intensity by both academics and journalists. One feature of this effect on media is publishing unlabeled public relations (PR) articles. This thesis "Detection of Unlabeled PR articles - the Theory and Application on Comparison of Czech Dailies" deals with methods that can reveal such texts. This work assumes that an unlabeled PR article is characterized by a lack of journalistic objectivity and as for the language aspect, by its persuasive component. The theoretical part therefore focuses on objectivity of journalistic texts and communication intention as seen from pragmalingvistic theory. For consequent use in the empirical part, this work summarizes existing research of unlabeled PR articles, with a special consideration for methods used by scholars. It stems from the findings of the critical political economy of communication, particularly the issue of advertisers influence on media contents. On grounds of these conclusions, this work then introduces its own design for identification of unlabeled PR articles, by classifying according to several predefined PR parameters. The classification system was designed on the basis of content analysis of...
