Stropnický, Matěj ; Bělohradský, Václav (advisor) ; Keller, Jan (referee)
Matěj Stropnický Myslet socialismus bez tanků Diskurzivní analýza pojetí a úlohy svobody slova v různých interpretacích československého roku 1968 Abstract Trying to overcome the traditional analytic nihilism of papers dealing with Czechoslovakia in 1968, which arises from the military occupation, the author puts the fact of freedom of speech into his work's central interest. In a comparative study this work studies the different interpretations of its role and meaning, including: the dogmatic point of view concerning the freedom of speech being a source of organized counterrevolution; the effort of the reformers to include the freedom of speech into their reform and meanwhile to make it an instrument of it and the way it instead became an autonomous control of their politics; the realistic criticism concentrated on the manifestations of irresponsibility in the press endangering the reform on the one side and not being able to exit the temporary system imagination on the other; it equally pays attention to the 'unnamed', non-members of the Party, who process their self-establishment as an opposing political current, who however rest being no less than a source of interesting subversion; and finally examines the radical democrat approach understanding the freedom of speech as an obligatory condition of their...

Hanuš, Karel ; Šubrt, Jiří (advisor) ; Keller, Jan (referee) ; Veselý, Arnošt (referee)
In the long term the issue of the welfare state is one of the most debated political topics and it concerns almost all members of society. In the last few decades the advanced welfare state has been more frequently perceived as an obstacle for competitiveness in the globalized economy and issues of its economic sustainability and societal impact are widely debated. Sweden is generally considered to be a country with the most advanced model of welfare state, but it is also a country which suffered from a deep economic crisis in the early 1990s. Development of the Swedish model of welfare state in the context of the crisis presents a critical case for assessment of welfare state vitality. In this thesis, welfare state is defined as a multidimensional phenomenon that includes both social expenditures and institutions of social policy and power structures and legitimacy. For analyzing of transformations of the Swedish welfare state in all four dimensions is applied a theoretical perspective based on the power resources theory, the institutional approach, the transnational perspective, the dependency and the world-systems theory which whose complementarity is theoretically substantiated. The thesis with this approach should contribute to better understanding of the development of the welfare state in...

Labour market changes and perspectives of education
Tvrdý, Lubor ; Keller, Jan (advisor) ; Kuchař, Pavel (referee) ; Kern, Jiří (referee)
At present, society has been undergoing significant changes. There has also been a transformation in the way people work. There has been a sharp increase in the demands on employees, especially from the point of view of new knowledge and skills, namely those skills and knowledge related to the development of information technologies. Differences existing on the labour market have also been growing, both with regard to income and the length of unemployment. The nature of these differences may be explained in the context of either segmentation theories or the growth of individua! inequalities. With the increase in the number of university graduates, the problem of over-qualification has arisen, i.e. part of the people with university education hold positions which are supposed to be filled with secondary school graduates - with little prospect for change. An analysis of the transformations taking place on the labour market and in the area of education has been carried out in the doctoral thesis. Furthermore, the development of the relationship between attained education and the individual's resultant position on the labour market with respect to over-qualification is described in the thesis. The final part of the thesis is devoted to growing wage differentiation and the process of labour market segmentation.
