Issues of pet goat breeding
Kuželová, Tereza ; Fantová, Milena (advisor) ; Novotná, Klára (referee)
General aim of this thesis is to describe the goat raising sector of Czech republic exclusive of commercial meat and milk production subjects. This literary research details the non-professional goat raising and interesting traits of a few selected goat breeds, more specifically Dutch Dwarf goat, Valais Blackneck and Pygmy Goat (Cameroon). Angora goat and Cashmere goat are selectively bred, as their names suggest, for wool and coat production. Goat fur manufacturing industry isnt developed in Czech republic, these breeds are therefore utilized mainly for grass grazing, land development or just being raised for the mere fun of it. Also worth mentioning is the Girgentana breed, which not so long ago stood on the brink of extinction. Each chapter covers one specific breed, elaborating on its origins, on the history of the strain, its characteristics and utilization. Popularity of non-professionally raised goats in Czech republic is on the rise thanks to their attractive colouring, relatively low groundswell, their intelligence and a friendly temper. All kinds of farm or agriculture animals are nowadays being transformed into exotic pets and the goats are no exception. According to the surveys of Czech Goat Breeder Association, the numbers of goat breeders are on the worldwide rise and the non-professional hobby breeders are an integral part of them.
Effect of feeding flaxseed on the quality of goat milk fat
Malá, Kateřina ; Fantová, Milena (advisor)
Type of feed, its quality, form of adjustments and feeding technique influence the composition and quality of milk. The share of milk components is highly variable, depending on nutrition and animal health. The greatest changes occurring in milk fat content. Milk fat is responsible for the natural flavor of milk. However, in terms of the modern world, human, saturated fatty acids contained in milk fat is considered negative active ingredient with the subsequent development of cardiovascular disease and the development of atherosclerosis in humans. Currently, therefore a growing demand for polyunsaturated fatty acids in milk as a healthy alternative. For this reason, an effort to influence the composition or the content of fatty acids in the milk of dairy animals. One way to significantly increase the content of desired MUFA and PUFA acids in milk fat is the use of oils and oilseeds in the ration. Very positive influence flaxseed, which among other things contains high levels of linolenic acid. The aim of this work is to analyze and evaluate the milk fat of goats, which are fed with linseed in extruded form compared with a control group of goats without complementary food. It can assume that feeding flaxseed to increase milk fat content, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Performance evaluation in ecological breeding in sheep
Camfrlová, Veronika ; Fantová, Milena (advisor) ; Ptáček, Martin (referee)
This thesis looks at the issue of organic agriculture, and focuses on sheep farming. The standard methods by which sheep are farmed, in particular pasture grazing, lend themselves to organic farming. The objective of this bachelor thesis is to collect information looking in particular at numbers of sheep reared, herd size, composition breeds, animal yield, i.e. the current status of organic sheep farming in the Czech Republic and the European Union. It will also characterise the type of sheep by purpose and selected breeds suitable for rearing on organic farms. Knowledge of farming techniques and technologies, sheep nutrition, veterinary problems and reproductive problems are also essential for sheep farming. In many ways, organic sheep farming does not differ much from conventional farming. It is typical to keep to certain conditions and restrictions for such farms, but in regard to the environment and overall level of husbandry, these restrictions are certainly justifiable. Part of the thesis looks at sheep ethology, because the breeder must set the technique and technologies of animal husbandry taking account of natural behaviours and expressions, thus securing the welfare. Welfare can also be affected by inappropriate handling of animals, which is why they should be treated in the right manner to minimise stress. The objective of the thesis is to assess the performance of organic sheep farming, which according to results available is at a good level. This is just an approximate claim, however, because results of performance inspections are not held separately. Animal husbandry economics relates to performance, and can be supported by the availability of grants. Organic sheep farming does not require any particularly economically challenging inputs, has prospects, and if reproductive and production indicators continue to improve, then this type of farming can be economically profitable.
Monitoring of sheep in the West Bohemian region of the Czech Republic
Vaštová, Anna ; Fantová, Milena (advisor) ; Ptáček, Martin (referee)
This work is divided into two parts and focuses on breeds which are kept in west of the Czech Republic. First part is dedicated to importance of sheep breeding. In this part the work is also focused mainly on meat, milk and wool as main commodities. The work occupied with system of sheep breeding as well, e.g. chalet system, and it describes different kinds of their raising. One part is also dedicated to history focused on increasing population in the Czech Republic and change in structure of breeds during certain periods. Very important is transition of breeds in 20th century. The other chapters focus on breeds raised in the west of Czech Republic and their characteristic. There are seven breeds, which are analysed deeper and which are, speaking about population, more important. We are talking about breeds such as lacaune, dairy breed, charollais and suffolk, meat breeds, bergschaf, merinolandschaf and romney, combined breeds. There are also briefly described the problems of housing, nutrition and veterinary issues. In the second part work focuses on current situation of sheep breeding and its population. There are raised mainly Šumava sheep, whose have rich tradition, in the west of Czech Republic. We found there 1168 female. The work is also mentioning pasturing CHKO and NP, which became integral to these districts. The last chapter is dedicated to efficiency of sheep breeding and specially control over efficiency of milk breeds, such as lacaune, and control over efficiency of population growth, fertility and production of wool.

This thesis is focused on variability, opportunities and the use of llamas in business. The aim of this study is to desribe and analyse the issue, include and cover the legal standards required for use in practice and to desribe and compare the already operating businesses of this nature, as in Czech Republic, as in other countries. I focused primaly on aplication of the legislation of the Czech Republic into practise and on a wide range of options in usage and training of llamas for both healthy and handicaped clients. The benefit of this thesis is to outline all aspects relevant to the use of llamas, such as llamatrekking or llamatherapy.
Ethology of sheep
Smolová, Markéta ; Fantová, Milena (advisor) ; Toušová, Renata (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to give the readers a closer look on the topic of ethology of sheeps. The aim was to record and evaluate all available data of the behavior of sheep depending on climatic conditions, livestock and provide a view into this issue. Sheep and goats are oldest domestic species on the planet. Sheep farming has its own specifics, which farmers must respect. A good indicator of suitability or unsuitability of applied breeding technology, health and welfare are their behavior. Thesis deals with the ways of grazing techniques and their suitability for sheep. It describes the factors that affect sheep. It focuses mainly on grazing which is most suitable, because it satisfies behavioral and physiological needs of the sheep as well and minimizes work and increases yields. It also deals with individual life manifestations of sheeps such as food intake and excretion, rumination, walk, rest and sleep. Sheep spends all day with these particular acts. The thesis focuses on the reactions of stress, stress factors and possible alternative solutions to eliminate stress factors. There are also important the social and sexual behavior. Sexual behavior is crucial factor for fertility and birth rate, which is the main factor of economic profitability. Large part of the thesis is devoted to the relationship between ewes and lambs during their lives. It describes the lactation process, ewe behavior to the lamb, lamb playful behavior and weaning. Part of the thesis is devoted to comfort behavior and thermoregulation. The last part deals with the sensory properties of sheeps- sight, hearing, smell, taste and sense of touch.
Issues of llamas breeding
Lindová, Alžběta ; Fantová, Milena (advisor) ; Nohejlová, Lenka (referee)
This literature search deals with breading llamas. At first, it focuses on taxonomy of llamas, which follows the classification of Wilson and Reeder (2005). The development of camel family is described in the chapters called Origins and Domestication, including their gradual migration. In this chapter there are also mentioned different views on domestication, which happend from guanaco to llama and from vicugna to alpaca. This claim was confirmed by DNA analysis. The parts called Species and Standards of Llamas are featuring about physical characteristics, distribution, enviroment, way of life, reproduction, nutrition of llamas (Including specifics of guanaco and subspecies). Technology and breeding techniques are dealing with fencing and animal housing, which has to be free. Llamas are modesty but need specific conditons of breeding. The conditions of breeding llamas and camels are defined in the Decree no. 346/2006 Coll. (Anex no. 5 The determination of breeding animals). Another part of this research work is dedicated to the digesteve system of llamas (the non ruminants). It is focusing on the need and importance of proteins, minerals, vitamins, seeds, water, pasture and hay. Reproduction of llamas describes its own reproduction. It is the only even toed ungulates mating lying down. Hereafter there are defined the most common ways of determing gestation period, gestation in different species and delivery (the delivery takes part mostly in the morning hours). Following chapter is discussing the topic Care of baby. Also there is mentioned the percentage of componets of colostrum and milk. The wool produced by a llama is very soft, lanolin free, hypoallergenic, odorless and shiny. All the characteristics of wool, physical and chemical contens of wool are dealt in the chapter called The production of wool and its facturing. The most valuable wool is the wool from vicugna. The penultimate section, another use of llamas, describes breeding of llamas for meat production, which is rich in proteins, as well as the use of their leather and fur, fiber (wool) and fertilizer, which does not pollute the environment and there is no danger of burning of plants. Mainly male llamas are used for transporting of loads. The llama is also an excellent animal for pulling carts. Llamas are suitable for animal therapy. The last chapter deals with the llama as a guardian animal. Llamas are increasingly used to protect sheep, deer, cattle, goats, ducks and geese from predators.
