Attitudes of health care professionals in intensive care to patients after suicide attempt
Kukelková, Petra ; Kukol, Václav (advisor) ; Di Cara, Veronika (referee)
The thesis focuses on the attitudes of health care professionals in intensive care to patients after a suicide attempt. First chapter deals with suicide issues in detail, outlines sources of emotional problems and stress which can health care professionals encounter. The next chapter talks about burnout syndrome. The research part surveys the attitudes of healthcare professionals to suicidal patients, investigates the level and effectiveness of the awareness of health care professionals in the psychiatric and psychological issues and its impact on their attitudes, assesses awareness of burnout syndrome and eventual respondent's own experiences with this condition and evaluates the degree of mental and emotional demands of care of suicidal patients. On the qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews participated 20 respondents. We found that the attitudes of health care professionals to patients after a suicide attempt are rather positive. A surprising finding was that 70 % of respondents didn't receive any seminar or course focused on topics mentioned above, and that none of them are actively interested in the specific issue of psychiatric intensive care of patients with somatic disease and neither the issue of suicides. A disturbing finding was that 85 % of respondents observed...
Nursing care of a dialyzed patient
Mádlová, Marcela ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Jankovcová, Kateřina (referee)
Background: Caring for dialyzed patients is demanding from several perspectives. As far as the patient is concerned, a psyche plays a big role here. Although it is a rule that patients are detailed to the hemodialysis program, some patients will not be mentally prepared for hemodialysis treatment and worsening their health condition. Some patients are mistaken with the fact that dialysis is now part of their life. A large number of patients initially have plenty of myths and misinformation about dialysis and are therefore stressed and scared at the first dialysis session. They are afraid of pain, they may be afraid of needles, and they are afraid of what is going to happen. One of the tasks of a nurse is to identify and adequately communicate with these patients, as this avoids many problems, and the patient is more likely to cope with his illness and realizes that even though their lifestyle has changed, they can still live high-quality and satisfying life. Methodology: A case study, a case study of a patient who was chosen by deliberate, purposeful selection, was used to prepare the final bachelor thesis, as this patient represents research issues, first of all inadequate education and psychological stress associated with chronic renal failure. The aim of the research was to describe and evaluate...
Accessibility and comprehensibility of information given to families of patients in intensive care
Měchurová, Marie ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Pražáková, Zuzana (referee)
The thesis solves the quality of the process of passing information to the relatives / close patient in intensive care. A deficiency of important information or misunderstanding may cause anxiety and depression relatives and close patients. Communication with the patient's family must therefore be done methodically and systemically. The first part of the thesis brings orientation in the main terminology and introduces the already implemented strategies of solution of the problem in our country and in the world. The main objective is to create a methodical instruction for the OARIM (Department of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Medicine), which lists the priorities for informing relatives and close critically ill patients. The research maps the general view of the relatives of a critically ill patient hospitalized at OARIM on the process of communication and mutual co-operation with the staff. It also investigates how the OARIM patient's relatives assess the level of communication and interaction between them and the treating staff. The empirical part uses quantitative research methods; using a questionnaire survey on a sample of 92 relatives / close critically ill patients from a regional-type hospital, provides an analysis of the ways in which information is passed on to health...
Primary care in the American health care from the perspective of nurses
Novotná, Jana ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Lukášová Jeřábková, Lenka (referee) ; Kordulová, Pavla (referee)
Introduction: Primary care is a complex health - social care provided by healthcare professionals, especially at the level of citizen's first contact with the healtcare system and on the basis of long-term continuous access to the individual. It is a set of activities related to health promotion, prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilation and nursing care. There activities are provided as close to the patient's social environment as possible, respecting the bio-psycho- social needs (NCDP ČR, 2017). Objective: The main goal of this thesis is to clarify and explain the most significant differences in primary care of the patient in the Czech and American health care, focusing on the biggest problems and the advantages that are present at primary care level. The issue is viewed in the context of the social and cultural environment, which makes patient care in some respects specific. Questions: What is the education of a primary care nurse in the US? What are the competencies of a primary care nurse in the US? What is the nursing position in the US multidisciplinary primary care team? What competencies could be effectively transferred to the Czech healthcare system and why? Methodology: The main method by which I obtained most of the material for my bachelor thesis is based on a narrative review of...
Nursing care in anestesiology for a patient undergoing endarterectomy
Mocková, Karolína ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Pucholtová, Romana (referee)
The subject of my bachelor thesis is a description of nursing process for the patients in anesthesia during the endarterectomy. By myself, I find this topic very interesting, because the disease of the cerebrovascular system is currently the most frequent disease. Stenosis of carotids is responsible for the one-third cases of stroke. In most cases is asymptomatic. Stenosis of carotids is more frequent in the age of 60 and higher. The goal of my bachelor thesis is to describe the nursing process on the operating theatre during the endarterectomy and the differences in the nursing process for the patients in a general anesthesia and locoregional anesthesia. Point out the importance of the cooperation between anesthesiology team and surgical team. In my bachelor thesis, I used the method of the case study of the patient on the operating theatre in the county hospital. For my thesis I have used following sources: Czech or foreign professional literature, Czech or foreign scientific articles, my own observations and providing professional nursing care, interview with the patient, information from health care personnel and patient's medical documentation. Analyzing of the nursing care I found that the healthcare professionals follow the nursing standards and recommended procedures. I found also the...
The use of an automated external defibrillator by the members of the integrated rescue system - the level of education provided to firemen and policemen
Stejskalová, Radka ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Kulířová, Veronika (referee)
The theme for this thesis is based on the European Resuscitation Council's guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation of 2015. One of the important points of these procedures is the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED). These devices were developed for informed responders without the knowledge of cardiac rhythm diagnostics and allow to perform an early defibrillation of the heart, before the arrival of emergency services. AED is a sophisticated device that is a part of the equipment of I - firefighters and policemen. Training of these so-called first aid responders performs the local emergency service team. Over the years 2015 and 2016, the majority of the professionally active firefighters and police officers in one selected Czech district who have the automatic external defibrillator in their equipment attended a training in how to use this device. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the concept of the training courses is sufficient. If the theoretical part is well understandable for the respondents, and whether the practical training is sufficient - not only the actual compressions and ventilation, but also the use of an automatic external defibrillator, or whether it would be appropriate to extend this training. In this research I used a quantitative method - an...
Complications of systemic thrombolysis in patients with stroke
Drbohlavová, Šárka ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Kulhavá, Miluše (referee)
Strokes are one of the most serious diseases that often lead to permanent disability and in some cases even to death. Currently, widely available treatment by intravenous thrombolysis is recommended. The objectives of this diploma thesis are to analyse complications that may arise for patients with iCMP treated by intravenous system thrombolysis, to define the role of a nurse in ICU in terms of taking care of this group of patients, and to map all the factors influencing the result of the treatment. In order to obtain the data necessary, combined research method has been applied. The quantitative part was retrospectively evaluated based on SITS Registry data. The research part comprised of patients, to whom IVT was applied between January 2014 and December 2015. The subjects of the analysis were treatment complications, gender of patients treated by IVT, risk factors present, time data, and heaviness of the deficit before the treatment and after. Furthermore, we observed where is the patient released to after IVT and how many patients are able to stay in home environments three months after the treatment. Qualitative part of the investigation was evaluated based on half-structured interviews with the nurses working in ICUs for highly specialized care for patients with stroke. We observed their...
Comparison of the efficacy of arterial flushing sets: heparinized flush versus saline flush
Strychová, Zdenka ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Dynáková, Šárka (referee)
(v AJ) The aim of this diploma thesis was namely to find out whether the saline solution, intended for the continuous flushing of arterial catheters, is as effective in preventing arterial blockage as compared to saline solution with heparin. In this diploma thesis I also deal with the comparison of material consumption by using both methods of flushing arterial sets and the financial costs associated with them. Patients with diagnosis of sepsis or septic shock were included in the study. Pseudorandomization was used to group 52 patients into either experimental and control group. The testing was performed using a non-parametric Wilcoxon two-assay test and Fisher precision test. Based on the results of my study, regard to the occurrence of complications (catheter closure) an arterial catheter flushing by saline solution is as effective as flushing by a saline solution with heparin. My research also confirmed that the use of saline solution as a flushing solution is less costly (regarding material) and therefore it is advisable to use saline solution for flushing arterial catheters. Based on my study, saline solution is now used as a flushing solution of arterial catheters at an anesthesiology-resuscitation department, where only a saline solution with heparin was used for the flushing. Using saline...
Nursing documentation of anesthetist nurses
Prošková, Lenka ; Di Cara, Veronika (advisor) ; Chvojková, Kateřina (referee)
Nursing documentation of anesthetic nurses is not an common type of documentation in our country. In some workplaces, the medical record of anesthesia is supplemented with data needed to identify the nursing care provided. Therefore, nurses do not have their own nursing documentation at these workplaces, but they record the data in the documentation with the doctor, or continue the records on the decree sheet. Each medical facility in our country has its own system of health documentation, which makes a logical, continuous unit. The aim of my research was to find satisfaction of the nurses in the examined medical facility with the established system of medical documentation, more precisely anesthetic nursing documentation, which is related (not only) to surgical procedures. Describe how many documents are created in connection with the operation and which of them affect nursing care records. Whether they are clear, readily available, and capture the necessary data for all nurses involved in patient care in the operational fields. The choice for research was a quantitative survey using a questionnaire prepared in writing. Respondents were surgical nurses, ARO, ICU, adult room and anesthetist nurses. Part of the research was the study of existing papers, which fill anesthetist nurses and documents...
