The altar in the Czech Art Nouveau

This thesis is dedicated to the manifestations of Art Nouveau in the altar production of the Czech woodcarver Jan Kastner and the integration of an altar in the Art Nouveau style into the context of a contemporary church interior. The first chapter deals with J. Kastner's personality and his work and plans including his exhibits presented in the world exhibitions, mainly as related to his altar production. Kastner's altars are in the Art Nouveau or pseudo- Gothic style, but some combine in a specific way elements of the Art Nouveau with the late pseudo-Gothic style. The second chapter presents three examples of churches with three main altars (created in different variants of the Art Nouveau) and a corresponding interior in the Art Nouveau style. The three churches are: the Elevation of the Holy Cross Church in Jablonec nad Nisou by Josef Zasche, the church of Saint Cyril and Metoděj in Kroměříž by Hubert Gessner and the Monument of Peace in Prace near Brno by Josef Fanta. The last chapter is an attempt to set up criteria for defining a sacral work of art as one in the Art Nouveau style. The supplement summarizes the historical development of the Christian altar.

Women in the Association of anti-fascist groups or "It's not just that girls could beat the Nazis" (Analysis of the status of women-antifascist in the selected anti-fascist group)

The aim of my thesis is to discover what is the status of women in czech Association of anti- fascist groups (AAFG). I am interested in how gender affects and limits the participation of women within the movement. This thesis also aims to describe the inner workings of selected anti-fascist organisation. The theoretical part is devoted to show the concept of subcultural and social movement, which is the Association of anti-fascist groups (AAFG) part. I will also offer a gender perspective of the researches of subcultures and women's participation in them to the readers. The main part of the thesis describes selected methods of the research - especially semi-structured interview and semiotic content analysis - and their use in practice. This part of the thesis is at the same time devoted to the theme of ethical discussion of the research and research's self-reference of the researcher. Then this part analyzes the data and presents the findings resulted from the research. In this thesis I focus on the "revival" of the Association of anti-fascist groups (AAFG) and its possible impact of larger involvement of women.

Ending homelessness in the Czech Republic: Application of the Housing First model to the Czech environment

In times such as these, when there is a rapid increase of people facing a housing crisis in the Czech Republic and the attempts to create and enforce the Law on Social Housing, people look at models from the Western countries, such as Housing First. Such models could provide possible solution for the housing situation of many people and also improve the quality of their lives. This particular method appeared in the 1990s USA and was aimed especially for people without homes who suffer from a mental disorder and alcohol or drug addiction at the same time. The main idea is that housing should not be a reward for successful solution of life problems but something that a person needs to start dealing with their troubles. In cases when people are given a place to live for a reduced rent, with the help of a social worker they can very often keep it up and they have the chance to deal with other problems connected to homelessness. The efficiency of the model is explored through experimental projects that do not look only at the percentage of people who are able to keep up their home but also the positive impact on their health or employability. František Urban's Stained Glass

František Urban (1868-1919) devoted himself mainly to religious painting, the majority of his production was commissioned by the Church. Among these, the least attention has been dedicated to his stained glass designs, with the exception of his most famous complex in the Cathedral of St Barbara in Kutná Hora. However, these designs were held in high regard among the commissioners and Urban drew them for almost twenty churches and chapels. The supreme phase of his production was caught and can be now accessed in a representative publication of his designs for churches, published 1907-1909 in two parts. Urban's style has been classified as Art Nouveau; it is, however, only a simplistic description. Urban used older elements and composition schemes, brought by the Nazarenes at the beginning of 19th century. These he repurposed for the Art Noveau style, using the typical flatness and delicate colouring, idealization, ornamental elements in the fashion of that time, and most of all the then so popular folklore motifs. Urban's wife, Marie Urbanová- Zahradnická, contributed to some of the ornamental elements. Support and Advancement of Fifth-Grade Pupils' Reading Comprehension

My diploma paper deals with the problems of the advancement of fifth-grade pupils' reading comprehension. The theoretical part starts from the specification of the reading literacy conception, within the scope of which the classification of certain reading skills is presented. They form the clear terminology base for the other parts of my diploma paper. After the statement of requirements for the advancement of reading skills in the Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education, the exploration of facts of international researches and one local project substantial for these problems and interviews with teachers follow. On the basis of those explorations and interviews, the skills advanced during the lessons in the practical part are determined. Methods and forms of work the use of which should contribute to the advancement of reading literacy are also described, as well as prepubescent pupils' reading interests. The practical part consists of two closely interconnected units - the preparation of three lessons the aim of which was the advancement of three selected skills and their realization analyses.
