The Czech Music Community - Tradition, the Present Day

My thesis is focused on the entire history of the Czech Music Society. This work is divided into two main parts. In the first section I deal with the history of the Czech Music Society from its very beginning to nowadays and in the sccond part I concentrated on the organization structure of every single part. The Czech Music Society is a voluntary independent association of people who are interested in music. The organization concentrates primarily on music education, musicology, interpretation, publishing and so on. It organizes a lot of activities in connection with music, for example courses both for professionals and amateurs, lectures, workshops, concerts, music summer camps and excursions. Its own history dates back to 1972 when the preparatory commission was established. The organization officially started its activity in 1975. The range of activities was truly wide. After the Velvet revolution in 1989 the Czech Music Society had to tackle serious financial problems. The members have tried to solve these problems, unfortunately without any success. The Society will cease to exist by the end of the year 2006.

Selection of Songs to Progressiv System of Information Elements in Primary Music Education

V našem hudebním systému se děti učí pěveckému projevu trojí cestou. Nápodobou slyšeného neboli vokální imitací, vokální intonací a vokální improvizací neboli tvořivostí. Často se však ve školní praxi dochází záměně vokální imitace za vokální intonaci, proto je třeba přesně tyto dva termíny definovat, aby nebylo možné je zaměňovat. Vokální imitací nazýváme pěvecké projevy, které vznikají opakováním sluchem vnímaných hudebních útvarů: melodií, témat, motivů, úryvků písní apod.. Při nácviku se snažíme na základě sluchových vjemů napodobit tyto poslouchané útvary co nejpřesněji. Nápodobou slyšeného nedochází hlubší analýze hudebně výrazových prostředků. Nedochází uvědomělým operacím s hudebními představami ani výraznějšímu rozvoji hudební paměti. Vokální intonace je vlastně převod notového zápisu melodie do její odpovídající zvukové podoby za pomoci hlasového orgánu. Na rozdíl od imitace, kde hudební podněty zpracovává sluch, jsou u intonace hlavními hudebními podněty noty, které jsou zpracovávány zrakem. Jak jsem již uvedla imitace není pro dítě tak přínosná, tudíž by měla být pouze jakýmsi předstupněm intonace. Imitačně bychom měli učit ty písně, které jsou pro děti příliš obtížné nebo ty, na jejichž intonační zvládnutí dítě nemá dostatečné znalosti, což se v průběhu školní docházky samozřejmě mění. The PhD thesis deals with the issue of piano as a didactic aid in music lessons at primary schools. In view of teachers' professional competences, it establishes a set of required teacher's competences concerning piano playing and outlines specific outputs of instrumental training of pre-service graduate students. The Czech Club Scene - Aspects of the Club Scene and its Influence on the Musical Appreciation of Young People

The object of the graduation thesis was to find out what is the role of club music in todays youth's life, what musical and non-musical factors affect their reception of music, what music styles are preferred by young people and why. The dissertation deals with psychological aspects. Then it mentions the influence of media and also outlines the development of four most influencing genres in pop music (rock, punk, ska, hip hop). The next goal was to determine what is the importance of teenagers' active musicianship (playing in a band), regarding musical appreciation and building up their musicalness. The questionnaires and interviews with students emerge that the listeners who visit the concerts in clubs belong to the group of real music fans who don't perceive music only as a background. For them music embodies the way of self expression and it can also refers to their belonging to a peer group - a group of people with identical views of life, similar musical preferences but with alike appearance attributes too.

The Artistic Contribution of the Musical Component of Libuše Kurková's Pedagogical Work in the System of Music and Movement Education ABSTRACT The dissertation The Artistic Contribution of the Musical Component of Libuše Kurková's Pedagogical Work in the System of Music and Movement Education is a musical theoretical and musical pedagogical reflection, dealing first of all with the compositions by contemporary Czech authors linked with Libuše Kurková's choreographies. It is a musical component of movement games, dance choreographies, book publications and methodical manuals, radio programs for children, artistic documents, etc. It highlights the typical features of Libuše Kurková's pedagogical work, its novelty and its originality. It shows that she was ahead of her time, anticipating current musical pedagogical theories and conclusions from the research in the relation between music and movement. The dissertation brings the musical analysis of Zdeněk Lukáš's unpublished manuscripts. Of course, it also focuses on published compositions of the whole musical component of Libuše Kurková's work (P. Eben, Z. Lukáš, J. N. Orff Schulwerk in Czech Music - use Orff Schulwerk options as a means of developing musicality school children

This thesis deals with the principles of Orff s Schulwerk as possible means to encourage musicality of school children. Following an historical study of the penetration of Carl 0rff s ideas into Czech schools, the main principles of the Schulwerk are introduced while Phasizing their model character. The most extensive part of the dissertation is dedicated to researching and verifying the hypothesis that activities based on Schulwerk principles Progressively develop childrens' musicality. In this final part of the thesis hypotheses and objectives of research are outlined. Subsequently, the successive research stages are described as well as the methodical succession of lessons. Finally, an interpretation of a question poll and musicality tests is presented together with results of a research on musical creative thinking features among primary school and lower secondary education children groups. In an anamnestic questionary the hypothesis is verified that out-of-school music activity contributes positively to increasing the musicality of the research participants. Likewise, it has been proven that Orffs principles can be used in music education on a wide scale ranging from nursery schools to lower secondary education. Diagnostic of musical appreciation of primary school's pupils. Comparison of auditory and audio-visual versions of the tests

The thesis deals with the possibilities of the measurement of the musical abilities and skills of the pupils through the collective tests of musicality. The test was prepared in two version. The first was "classical" - only auditive, but the second version was "experimental", it use the visualization in all subtests. Following a concise overview of the several tests of the musicality for last 100 years, the author defines the fundamental terms as musicality, musical abilities and skills, test, visualization. Following this introduction, she concentrates on the methodology of the construct of the tests for pupils of 1st , 4th and 6th classes of the primary school. The most extensive section of the thesis is devoted to the evaluation, description and interpretation of results of both versions of tests in several classes with use of many tables and graphs. This research verified most of hypothesis and confirmed the needfulness of the utilization of visualization not only for the testing procedure, but also for the teaching of music education in school. The interconnection of visual and acoustic perception helps pupils to understand subject matter faster and easier and also concretizes abstract musical concepts, what is necessary in case of younger age above all. 1 1 1 1 1 1
