Natalya Gorbanevskayaʼs reception and translation in the Czech Republic

The present diploma thesis investigates Czec sociopolitical and translation reception of poet, journalist and dissident Natalya Gorbanevskaya. The thesis bases on the context from the Moscow Red Square demonstration against the occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 and maps its reception, which is above all in the Czech Republic an inseparable part of the image of this personage. Further, it introduces the life, literary output and poetics of Gorbanevskaya and makes translatological analysis of Czech translations of authorial parts from her book Red Square at Noon, cycle of eight-line-poems "Place de la non-Concorde" (Площадь несогласия) and other particular poems. Inseparable part of the thesis is also an interview with the author of Czech translations Milan Dvořák.

Developmental Trends in Czech Translation Criticism with a Special Focus on Professional and Lay Reception of Libor Dvořákʼs Translations from Russian

This diploma thesis tracks the Developmental Trends in Czech Translation Criticism with a Special Focus on Professional and Lay Reception of Libor Dvořák's Translations from Russian. It lists critical receptions of Dvořák's translations in the chronological order and analyzes to what extent their form and content comply with critics' prescriptive requirements who had previously reviewed the quality of literary translation. Further, it introduces Libor Dvořák as a journalist and translator and outlines his critics' professional profiles. The thesis also examines the translator's motivation to create new translations of significant works by Russian classics, such as War and Peace, The Master and Margarita and The Brothers Karamazov. The conclusion presents the results of the analytical part of the thesis and provides the translator's own reaction. Analysis of Criminal Terminology in the Czech Translations of Selected Dostoyevsky's Novels

(in English): This thesis focuses on a review of the criminal terminology in the Czech translations of five novels by F. M. Dostoevsky. The paper covers the following novels: 1) Crime and Punishment; 2) Demons; 3) Notes from the House of the Dead; 4) The Brothers Karamazov and 5) The Idiot. The main objective of the manuscript is to analyze the legal terms in these novels and to ensure accurate translations into the Czech language from a legal and linguistic perspective. Translating Children's Literature: Literary Works of K. I. Chukovsky in Selected Czech Translations

(in English): The diploma thesis focuses on translating children's literature: literary works of K. I. Chukovsky in selected Czech translations and its specifics. Amongst these specifics we can mention the dual address, censoring during Soviet Union, adaptations, the questions of illustrations in translating children's literature and utmost importance of phonetic and rhythmic structures in Chukovsky's literary works. Last two specifics must be in harmony with text itself due to the reader's age category (preschool and school-age children). Specifics of children's literature as well as theory and strategies in translating children's literature are applied on selected Czech translations. The translation analysis will be carried out on following works: Телефон and Муха-Цокотуха. The analytic part of given diploma thesis focuses to what extent the translators took into consideration stated specifics. Both analyzed works has been selected thanks to their most characteristic elements on which we can demonstrate the author's style and then compare them with translations. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide an annotated translation of two selected chapters from the book 50 величайших женщин. The thesis consists of two parts: the first one is the translation itself, the second part represents the annotation of that translation. The annotation is also made of two parts. The first one is the analysis of the source text based on the model of Christiane Nord, that is the categorization of intratextual and extratextual factors. The second part describes translatological transformations and is based on the classification of V. N. Komissarov.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide an annotated translation of a chapter from the book Записки адвоката by Dina Kaminskaya into Czech language. The commentary consists of two parts - the first part contains a translation analysis based on the model of Ch. Nord, which within intratextual factors includes also a typology of translation problems on several levels, the second part is a typology of translation shifts based on the classification of V. N. The aim of this bachelor thesis is a translation of a chapter titled Prinuditel'nyje migracii i Vtoraja mirovaja vojna from a Pavel Polyan's book Ne po svojej vole: Istorija i geografija prinuditel'nych migracij v SSSR and the analysis and commentary of this translation. The commentary consists of four parts. The first part contains an analysis of the source text using the model of Christiane Nord, taking into account also the cathegories used in Czech stylistics. The second part describes the conception of translation and the chosen translation method. The next part deals with problems that occured during the process of translation and their solutions. The last part deals with the translation shifts. Czech reception of Mikhail Bulgakovʼs novella The Fatal Eggs

This thesis deals with the reception of the works of Michail Bugakov by the Czech community from the 1920s to 1980s. This time frame is set by the publishing of two translations of Bulgakov's novella Fatal Eggs. Using the two translations, published over fifty years apart, this thesis attempts to demonstrate how were Bulgakov's works received by the Czech community and in what context were they understood. The thesis focuses mainly on the impact of the novel in the life and work of Michail Bulgakov. Following that, a picture of the author created by the Czech journalism and commentaries accompanying his works is shown. Through the analysis of these texts the thesis focuses on the influence of ideology on the interpretation of author's works and fate. Further focus is given to the differences of translation styles of both translators. The translatological analysis of selected samples of both translations has been conducted and upon it the methods used by each of the translators have been synthesized.
