Visual presentation of american presidential elections 2016 in Czech online media

The thesis Visual presentation of american presidential elections 2016 in Czech online media focuses on visual presentations of Americal presidential elections in various Czech online media. The first part of the thesis introduces the basic principles of political communication, trends in political marketing and the development of the use of photographs in election campaigns. The following part of the thesis describes the characteristics of online news services with focus on processing accompanying photographs. At the end of the theoretical part, two representatives of online media iDNES.cz and Blesk.cz are shortly characterized. The applied part uses the quantitatively- qualitative content analysis accompanied by in-depth interviews with representatives of Czech media to narrowly research into photographic materials with the topic of Americal presidential elections 2016 used by the news servers. The gathered data are not only compared between the servers but also before and after the revelation of the election results. At the end of the analysis, the overall photographic coverage of the American presidential elections 2016 is compared between the news services.
Usage of Instagram app in contemporary photojournalism

Usage of Instagram app in contemporary photojournalism is a theoretical-empirical research. The aim of this work was to describe the way in which selected Czech photojournalists use Instagram. Whether it is important to them from the point of view of their professional orientation or whether they use it for personal purposes and whether is for them important the feedback they can get through this application. In the first chapter the diploma thesis deals with photography as such, its transition from analog to digital age and the issue of its manipulation. The second and third chapters of this diploma thesis deal with social networks and the application of Instagram. It also deals with how the digitization process has influenced the work of today's photo reporters. The practical part of the thesis is based on two approaches - quantitative content analysis and qualitative interviews with some of the reporters. The research question is: How do some Czech photojournalists present on the Instagram social network? Quantitative content analysis responded to established hypotheses in the research question, which mainly concerned the visual aspects of Instagram accounts. Visual representation of migrant crisis in Czech online media

The diploma thesis is focused on the European refugee crisis and its visual representation in czech online media. The first part of the thesis introduces causes, development and wider context of the crisis, focusing on its reflection in czech society. In addition, the thesis analyzes issues of media representation and defines main theories covering the issue. The thesis also describes other concepts of media studies, such as stereotyping or agenda setting. Moreover, it explains the principles of framing and gatekeeping in the media. All mentioned theories are applied on the field of visual communication. On top of that, the thesis focuses on the importance of photojournalism in the production of news content, defines its essence and changes which occurred after the adaptation of the digital technologies in the media. The next part of the thesis provides information about editorial routines associated with the production of photographic materials in the media and the organizational specifics of the work. Riot photography in the context of the Czech environment after the year of 1989

This thesis explores various aspects of riot photography in the context of the Czech environment after the year of the 1989, with focus on the far left. First, it introduces the subjects of protests, new radical activism as well as describes the role of photography in protests. It deals with the role of the media in protests and linked with that topic, it also describes informing about protests, concept of moral panic and the media's ability to form meaning. Furthermore, it deals with iconic photographs, the issue of objectivity, emotional side of riot photography and photojournalistic ethics. In addition to that, it clarifies what extremism really is, it defines the far left, and it maps the history of the far left in the Czech Republic after the year of 1989 on a selected groups, especially anarchists. In the context of the far left it also describes the biggest riots in the Czech Republic. Portraits of four Czech photographers - Jaroslav Kučera, Karel Tůma, Karel Cudlín and Petr Vrabec, follow. In the final part it examines aspects of protest photography by interviewing selected photographers, and through analysis of their photographs it analyzes styles of shooting protests and it reveals a potential imaging stereotypes.

The Master's thesis 'Visual representation of migrant crisis in Czech printed media' examines how certain czech newspapers informed about migrant crisis. The first part of the thesis introduces the core theoretical concepts, that serve as a basis for the analysis. Furthermore it includes a brief overview of the events linked to the migrant crisis. The analytical part presents the method of content picture analysis. Part of thesis named 'research results' offers a comparison of different approaches of individual newspapers, namely Deník, Mladá fronta DNES, Hospodářské noviny and Právo, towards the publication of photographs about migration crisis. Blending of media and marketing content on the example of Ambiente Restaurants company

This thesis deals with the blending of journalistic and marketing content on the example of Ambiente Restaurants, namely its corporate blog Jídlo a radost which was created in 2015 primarily for promotional purposes. The main aim of this thesis is to find out what procedures in the editorial of the Jídlo a radost blog editor uses, where the editors of the blog get information and whether their editorial routine is comparable to that in the classical publishing houses. At the same time, the work examines who the blog readers of Jídlo a radost are, how they perceive the content that Ambiente Restaurants publishes, whether the Jídlo a radost blog is for them the primary source of information about gastronomy and whether they trust the information from the blog. The practical part of this diploma thesis contains mixed research, which uses two research methods. The first is a quantitative method of questionnaire survey, in which readers of the Jídlo a radost blog readers were asked. The second is a qualitative method, namely a semi-structured interview with Ambiente Restaurant's communications manager Sarka Hamanova. Data from the research of were used to answer the five main research questions.
Media Portrayal of Older Adults in Czech Senior Magazines

This thesis deals with portrayal of elderly people in media. Thesis use a visual analysis of content to examine five Czech magazines for seniors: Doba seniorů, Grand Generace, Revue 50 plus, Spokojený domov and Vital Plus, year 2015. First part of the thesis explains theoretical concepts, which are related to this issue. It defines the concept of "oldness", the term "senior" and determines the limits of old age according to different authors. Next subchapter defines representation of reality in media and describes the difference between media reality and social reality. In the chapter Representation of old age in media we introduce the results of Czech and foreign studies, from which we have drawn not only in theory, but also in the preparation of our research plan. Fourth subchapter refers to stereotypes and myths about old age, ageing and seniors. Above that, the thesis also includes image analysis of photo content. Its main object are photographs with people over 50 years old. These images has are analyzed using several variables that we have created from Czech and foreign research.
