This diploma thesis "He decided to become a Nurse" discusses men who decided to enter a heavily feminized profession, studied nursing at secondary school or followed up secondary education with higher education - either at a college or in a bachelor's or master's program at a university's medical faculty, and currently work in a medical facility in the Czech Republic as a nurse. Qualitative research conducted with communication partners using semi- structured interviews investigated what was behind this decision to choose a profession that is usually perceived as feminine, what expectations the men had, and whether these expectations were fulfilled or changed during the practice. The results of the work could serve, among other things, also for personnel officers and personnel of health facilities or head nurses of hospitals to understand the problem of shortage or turnover of male nurses.

Gender analysis of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in selected episodes of the TV series The Surgery in the Rose Garden 2

The thesis "Gender analysis of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in selected episodes of the TV series The Surgery in the Rose Garden 2" introduces readers to problematic passages seen from a gender perspective in episodes 633 to 666 of the soap opera The Surgery in the Rose Garden 2. Research has found that doctors treat female nurses, female doctors and often female patients in a paternalistic manner (the exception are friends, such as a neighbour). The counterpart to the angry and conservative doctor Čestmír Mázl, who is stereotypically masculine (authoritative, aggressive), is the Ugandan doctor Aisha Nakabugo Kingi, who is stereotypically feminine (sensitive, empathetic). She is also progressive and is liked by patients and colleagues in the hospital. Her different ethnicity is a problem for Mázl and two other characters, but doctor Kingi disproves the racist stereotypes with her behavior and eventually befriends Mázl. Both surrogacy and home birth are presented as problematic ventures that are not recommended because they can turn out badly; in the soap opera, they only turn out well because of luck.

"Blurring Gender": Negotiating Non-binary and Gender Non-conforming Identities in the Czech Republic

The master's thesis "Blurring Gender": Negotiating Non-binary and Gender Non-conforming Identities in the Czech Republic operates within the field of Queer Studies. It focuses on the creation, articulation, negotiation and understanding of non-binary*, agender and gender nonconforming (GNC) Identities. An important aspect of the thesis is that it analyzes the understanding of these gender self-identifications through semi-structured interview with people who themselves identify as non-binary*, agender or gender nonconforming. Through this, the thesis lends a voice to people whose gender identity is not accepted by society. It is important to better understand and capture the complexities of negotiating and creating non- binariness. The main research questions are: How do non-binary* or gender nonconforming people from the Czech Republic formulate their identity? How do they enact their identity? What do non-binary/gender-nonconforming people from the Czech Republic prefer in public and in privacy? How do their GNC/non-binary identities affect their relationships? Using qualitative content analysis, the thesis attempts to penetrate into the meanings that non- binary/agender and GNC people describe in articulating their identities and uncover/name the oppressive forces they face in everyday life....

Sex robotics: humanization, sexualization and genderization of sexbots

The diploma thesis focuses on the analysis of tendencies to humanize modern technologies, i.e. the process of assigning human attributes and characteristics, roles and features to machines, despite the fact that machines are of inorganic origin, created artificially by man and thus inherently asexual. In the case of sexual technologies and in the field of sex robotics in particular, there is not only genderization but also the sexualization of humanoid- looking machines such as the so called sexual robots or sexbots. The resulting design reflects the binary understanding of gender and stereotypes associated with gender. The process of humanization is analyzed in the context of contemporary popular culture and post-humanistic theories of the study of human-robot relations, while also taking into account the binary understanding of gender and the categories of masculinity and femininity. Popular culture is thus improtant not only in regards to the development of sexbots but also in terms of acceptance by the users. Attention is paid to the possible positive and negative consequences of engaging with sexbots on the user int he contxt of the apparent human ability to form emotional connections to technological artifacts. Education about menstruation at the lower secondary schools by external subjects

The master diploma thesis concentrates on the issue of education about menstruation at lower secondary schools. Through qualitative interviews with external subjects who run workshops or lectures related to the topic of menstruation at schools, I have mapped the ways of teaching about this phenomenon. The primary objective of my work is to inform about the topics that are directly connected to the education about menstruation. Last but not least, I believe my work goes beyond the physical education and into the sociocultural area and seeks to destigmatize the natural physical process that menstruation is.

Motherhood as a competence for primary school teaching

The diploma thesis is focusing on phenomenon of change of career paths of university-educated but non-pedagogically educated women who return to the work process after maternity / parental leave. However, these women, who before motherhood were engaged in various jobs, in which they also achieved considerable job success and fulfilled their professional dreams, do not return to their original jobs. They are newly choosing the position of primary school teachers. Motherhood, as a loss of original professional competencies and gaining of new competencies, is thus a key aspect of research in connection with primary school teaching. The goal of this thesis is to uncover, in the form of in-depth interviews conducted from a feminist perspective, the reasons and motives for changing the employment of individual communication partners, to what extent it is a truly free choice of these women, and how the family, state or public discourse participates in this change. The objective of this report is to establish a European baseline of policies in place to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the legal, policy level and the level of research funding organisations (RFO), as a fixed point of reference for future comparisons, by assessing existing laws and policies at the national and RFO levels in 27 countries in the EU. This is accompanied by analyses of four Associated Countries (Iceland, Serbia, Turkey, UK) and two Third Countries (Canada, USA) that were selected for comparison and as examples of existing practices. The analysis focuses specifically on dedicated legal and policy frameworks focused specifically on universities and research organisations, in order to map the special efforts made by national and regional authorities and RFOs to combat GBV at these specific institutions beyond generic anti-discrimination legislation and labour law protections.\n
