Ve svojí práci se věnuji analýze teze, zda se Barrack H. Obama, mimo jiné držitel Nobelovy ceny za mír z roku 2009, během svého působení ve funkci amerického prezidenta více zasadil o mírovější politiku na Středním a Blízkém východě, než jeho předchůdce George W. Bush. Již ve svých předvolebních projevech se totiž Obama zavázal ukončit dlouhotrvající války v Afghánistánu či Iráku, rozpoutané právě za Bushe, a prosazovat mírovější politiku v tomto regionu. Ve svojí práci pak z dostupných zdrojů, ať už se jedná o odbornou literaturu či denní tisk, rozebírám, jak a v čem se lišila jejich zahraniční politika v daném regionu. Věnuji se též analýze toho, jak se oba prezidenti snažili vypořádat s hrozbou mezinárodního terorismu, zejména s ohledem na organizace jako Talibán, Al-Káida či Islámský stát, a jaké prostředky volili k jeho potírání či omezení jeho vlivu na území států jako jsou Irák, Afghánistán, Somálsko, Jemen či Pákistán. V samotném závěru práce se věnuji také srovnání toho, kolik si vojenské operace, vedené oběma prezidenty v tomto regionu, vyžádaly obětí mezi samotnými příslušníky amerických ozbrojených sil, jaké byly finanční náklady na tyto operace, ke kolika bombovým útoků drony došlo během prezidentství Bushe i Obamy, či kolik teroristů bylo během jejich funkčního období zabito. Barack Obama's election to the presidential office in 2009 for many people from the United States and abroad was a promise of a change in US foreign policy, which, in the reign of his predecessor George W. Bush, was too discredited by a military campaign to Iraq. Weapons of mass destruction, which were the official rationale for an attack on the regime of Saddam Hussein, were, according to many, only a cover for violent US "export of democracy" and increased influence in the oil-rich region. In the US, however, a year ago President Barack Obama left the highest office and was replaced by Donald Trump. And it is time to evaluate whether and how Obama fulfilled his determination to exert America from the "never-ending" conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan, caused - by Obama's words - by his predecessor George W. Bush, who was perceived as a "gunman" in the eyes of a substantial part of the US but also of the world public and never went far to approve the bombing during his presidency. At the same time, however, Barrack Obama's critics often say that his image of the peacemaker is just a chimera, as Obama was no better than his predecessor, and he earned the Nobel Peace Prize undeservedly.
