Resumé Abstrakt Tato práce je zaměřena na přelomový modernizační proces národnostně českého města na příkladu Kolína, a to v letech víceméně kontinuálního vývoje let 1848 až 1914. Je výsledkem snahy o mikrohistorickou sondu, která na kolínské municipalitě analyzuje jednotlivé projevy modernizačního procesu, především podnikatelskou aktivitu, městské hospodářské elity, demokratizaci a správní vývoj, dopravu, spolkovou činnost, urbanistický vývoj se souvisejícím budováním komunální infrastruktury nebo komunální finance. Toto město sice nemělo výraznější správní funkce, ale patřilo mezi nejvýznamnější města širšího regionu a mělo ambice stát se moderním průmyslovým centrem a úspěšným středním městem. To se mu ovšem povedlo jen částečně, přičemž v práci jsou vyzdvihnuty možné důvody. Kolín je vybrán i s ohledem na zemědělské zázemí, které je pevně spjaté s počátkem českého hospodářského vzestupu. Historický vývoj města je zde podáván v kontextu celkového vývoje a v souladu s relevantními teoriemi. Základem badatelského úsilí bylo studium příslušných pramenů ve Státním okresním archivu Kolín (pobočce Státního oblastního archivu Praha) a studium relevantní literatury. Výstupy z této práce jsou především příspěvkem k rozšíření poznatků o dějinách měst, průběhu modernizačního procesu a rovněž k hospodářským a... Resumé Abstract This work is focused on the breakthrough process of modernization of a city with a predominance of Czechs on the example of Kolín, during the more or less continuous development of the years 1848-1914. It is the result of a microhistoric probe that analyzes individual manifestations of the modernization process in the municipality of Kolín, primarily business activity, urban economic elite, democratization and administrative development, transport, federal activity, urban development with the related building of municipal infrastructure or municipal finance. Although the town did not have any more significant administrative functions, it was one of the most important municipalities in the wider region and it had ambition to become a modern industrial center and a successful medium-sized town. However, this was only partially accomplished, with possible reasons being highlighted in the work. Kolín was also selected with regard to an agricultural background, which is firmly linked to the beginning of the economic rise of Czech society. Historical development of the town is presented in the context of general development and in accordance with relevant theories.
