Bakteriální toxiny schopné tvorby transmembránových pórů představují širokou skupinu bakteriálních proteinů. Jsou významnými prvky virulence mnohých pathogenních bakterií. Svojí insercí do lipidové dvojvrstvy a vytvořením transmembránové póru v cytoplasmatické membráně vyvolávají narušení osmotické rovnováhy, která vede k lýzi napadené buňky. Různé skupiny toxinů využívají různé mechanismy napadení hostitelských buněk, přesto existuje několik univerzálních kroků - vazba na membránu, inserce do membrány, oligomerizace a vytvoření transmembránového póru. Their essential feature is the capacity to form hydrophilic transmembrane pores in cytoplasmic membrane of target cells. It leads to impairment of osmotic balance which can result in cell lysis. These toxins use different mechanism of cell attack. However, there is few similar steps - membrane binding, insertion into membrane, oligomerization and forming of the transmembrane pore.
