Pro úplnější a hlubší pochopení vývojového procesu v jednotlivých etapách dějin hudby - včetně hudby 20. století a jeho dílčích časových úseků - je pokaždé nutno rekonstruovat celkový obraz hudebního života, všestranně prostudovat působení a tvorbu osobností, jež vytvářejí neopakovatelný ráz příslušné epochy. Je nutno analyzovat a porovnávat obsáhlý hudební materiál, mezi jiným i materiál komorní hudby a tvorbu jednotlivých skladatelú pro smyčcový kvartet. Životem a tvorbou D. Milhauda (1892-1974), jednoho z nejvýznamnějších francouzských skladatelů 1. poloviny 20. století, se zabývá řada prací, ale celé jeho dílo nebylo dosud podrobně prostudováno. K badatelsky opomíjeným oblastem Milhaudovy tvorby patří kromě jiných také obor smyčcového kvartetu, jemuž se skladatel aktivně věnoval v letech 1912-1951 a jenž je odrazem jeho osobitého kompozičního stylu. Nedostatečný zájem o kvartetní a komorní hudbu Milhauda v dosavadní hudebně vědecké literatuře lze vysvětlit přednostní potřebou zkoumání a zhodnocení v určité etapě významu jiných ("velkých") druhů, zastoupených v jeho tvorbě, jako jsou opera, balet, kantáta nebo symfonická hudba. Hlavním tématem předložené disertace je problém tradice a inovace v Milhaudových smyčcových kvartetech, řešený na základě analýzy některých prvků kompoziční techniky v kvartetech... Restoration of a whole picture of a musicallife of the XX century and a multilaterally research of activity and creativity of the personalities forrning music's unique shape, help to better understand the music progress. It is also necessary to study and to compare an extensive musical material, in particular of chamber music, the compositions of the different composers in a genre of string quartet. Many works are devoted to life and activity of D. Milhaud (1892-1974) as one of the most prominent French composers of the first half of the XX century, but not all his heritage was studied in detail. The genre of string quartet can be a subject for extensive research because it is the most important part of the work of this composer within years 1912-1951 and consequently that string quartet reflects the composer's style. Insufficient interest in Milhauďs chamber music in the academic literature is connected with necessity to appreciate at the certain stage the leading genres of his work, such as an opera, a ballet, a cantata, a symphonic music; thereby Milhauďs quartets are not unequivocally valued in academic literature.
